I had my 06 4.7 installed with a Jet Performance Stage 1 chip & K&N 63 series air intake system yesterday. Boy, did it wake the engine up. The noise when you get on it is really cool, sounds like the older cars with the 4 barrel carburetor. Am really pleased. I also just ordered new JBA silver coated headers from summit racing. I hope they make a diference, especially for $729.

What an idiot.

Dyno before and after what you're doing, then throw the money up, straight up on a real windy day, you'll get the same dyno results as the mods you mentioned.

I don't need a dyno to tell the difference. Being a former drag racer, I can tell you it DEFINITELY is putting out significant more hp!

From what I have been hearing, the Jet stage 1 chip will only make a difference until the computer "sees" that it is there and then it will learn to work around or bypass the chip.
That is only my opinion so feel free to ask around some more.

Hey 4.7 owner, you are an ass!!!! And as far as the stage 1 chip is concerned, I don't think jet performance would be able to still sell the chips if they didn't work.

bbcdon,

Sorry about calling you an idiot, but,

Go to the Yahoo, Dodgedakota search engine, and look it up for yourself.

NO one, and I mean no one, has posted a before and after dyno, with the K&N, that got anything near what K&N says you'll get.

As far as the Jet chip is concerned, well, as I said, look it up. After my HO cams and other things, my Superchips (the only one that dynos a gain on an earlier 4.7), gained less than 10hp, max. I don't think they make one for yours, yet anyway.

If your 'drag racer' mentality is right, then put up with a before and after dyno.

You didn't get squat. Take off your clutch/fan, it'll dyno as much, if not more than your Jet Chip.

People that have been around the 4.7 awhile, are ROTFL at your comments of a jet chip. Maybe yours had the death flash, than it might get it back to near stock output. What's that, what's the death flash?

Save yourself, and your family alot of money, and read thru the archives on performance upgrades on the 4.7, using objective data. Butt dynos (feel), are NOT accurate. You changed the sound, hope is was worth it.

Why would I want to take the fan clutch off? It does have a purpose. And as far as what you or anyone else thinks, the chip and intake made a hell of a difference, so kiss my ass loser!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And also as far as the dyno results on the k&n intake, I doubt that anyone other than k&n took their engine out and measured flywheel horsepower!!!!!!!

I have SEEN several dyno results before & after intake AND before & after jet chip. Each mod resulted in LESS THAN 4%. The two together actually showed less than 5% in a couple cases. There are too many other restrictions with this powerplant to have an intake and chip do anything appreciable.

Dynos' are done at the rear wheel in car/truck owner cases.

You can estimate flywheel, from an accurate % drive train loss. Which has been reliably estimated by Factories dynoing motor, then vehicle with various drive train set ups.

As I said, how much did the new sound of your dak cost?

Like I said, K&N measured hp at the flywheel instead of on the ground, which is inefficient due to drivetrain drag. Believe me, K&N has the financial resources to get a TRUE hp reading, instead of mathematical calculations. And by the way, my dakota does sound good, and it RUNS good also. Sorry you are jealous because you apparently do not have the $$$ to spend on aftermarket items. Have a nice day!!!

You sure are kinda funny.

I HAD a post that I just deleted. It's really not worth it, this online bickering I mean.

Spend what ever you want, on what ever you want, and enjoy yourself.

Good day dude.

Guys - measuring a Dyno at the ground for purposes of comparison is just as valid as measuring at the flywheel - the important thing to remember is to use the same machine at similar atmospheric conditions for valid comparisons...

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

I've owned a 4.7 Stage 1 chip for 4 years now, it does make a difference.

Basically the truck sucks a lot more gas with the chip than without it. Almost a 3 mpg difference highway. Also the shift points are slightly different. The engine gains a lot more low end torque and hp, enough to squeel the tires. Without the chip, my truck can only chirp the tires.

There is a difference, depending on your setup, it could vary from person to person, but a lot of performance shops in my area recommend a chip over nothing at all.

But a chip is around $200 or more, and if I had to choose again, I would have ponied up a few extra coins to get a programmer since they seem to be worth it.

Just my 2 cents, take it or leave it.

Just to let you know, I took all 3 of the stock mufflers and resonators off and installed a 40 series flowmaster. Also, for your information, I installed JBA tuned headers to help the car breath. I am quite aware that the whole system has to breath freely to appreciate the upgrades. Now, you have a nice day BADEARN!

I don't think so pal. The catylitic converters are up near the collector just below the headers. Both sides have one. I don't know which year you have, but mine had 2 resonators, 1 muffler, and 2 catylitic converters.
