in the Rams its a 5.9L anyway

in 2007 it will be a 6.7

in 2004.5 they bumped it up to 600 ft/lbs and then in 05 605, in 2006 610
however when they did this the mileage kinda tanked out and is in the 14-16 range, the pree 600 levels were like 18-20
i think early 2004 was 570 ft/lbs and 2003 was 555 ft/lbs

as for HP
2003 - 305
2004 - 305
2004.5 - 310
2005 -320
2006 - 325

im not real sure on those numbers though, thats jsut pulling from memory

thats just the HO numbers
before 2004 there was the normal output and high outut

you cannot turbo charge a diesel.. for one they use compression instead of combustion and turbos run off the exhaust from combustion and if there is no combustion there cannot be exhaust.. if I were you I'd just put some nos on it

That's pretty funny, can't turbo a diesel eh????

They use compression for an explosion rather than a spark plug. There is still combustion.

fake shatto

nos increases the power of the combustion, if diesels dont have combustion then how would NOS help at all?

great reasoning....

jd (HD Mechanic),

My first was a Diesel Land Rover in the 60's.
It was the one I learned not to put my foot over the exhaust to kill the engine, like you can with a gas engine.

I wonder why someone gets such joy using my name to play childish games.

previously i was refering to the resident child shatto......

you still can kill a diesel engine by plugging the exhaust..... the only difference is a diesel can run around 400 to 500 psi compression, whereas a gasoline angine runs approx 150 to 200 psi......

well I know they changed when the diesel knock went away. That's what makes a diesel sound like it does. to take that away the introduce the same amount of fuel at 2 different times therefore eliminating diesel knock, it makes it quieter. and run more eficiently, giving you a more complete burn of the fuel.

that is called pre injection, and not always the same amount at two different times, usually a leaner mix first then the primary injection secondly, so instead of an explosion in the cylinder there is a more controlled flamefront.

Actually the ford 6.0's have the ability to make 3 injections of fuel if needed with their split shot injectors... Most diesels including the new twin turbo Ford 6.4's coming out are going over to 30,000+ psi fuel systems... The duramax was the first to do this among the big three, then Dodge - which actually uses the largest amount of fuel pressure, and now Ford... Previously they relied on the high pressure oil systems to create the high fuel pressure needed to inject the fuel...

Keep in mind diesels have the ability run on a 100:1 fuel mix while idling and due to the fact that they don't use throttle plates "wide open throttle all of the time" and they use the friction created by air being compressed to ignite the fuel, they do very nicely off of turbos... Infact the supercharger was created or developed to use in combonation with a twin turbo setup for a two stroke diesel engine... Diesel's love forced induction as much if not more than gas engines...

Going back to the new 6.7l, I think they will be unveiled with atleast 390 or 400hp and around 700 to 800 lbft of torque, other wise what's the use in buying something with that much fuel consumption and have only the same amount of power as the previous smaller engine??? Not only that, but it'll have to have those kind of numbers to compete with the new twin turbo "small turbo feeding bigger turbo" 6.4l powerstroke that ford is unveiling to replace the junk 6.0l and not to mention the fact that Dodge is also suppost to be unveiling their new 4500 and 5500 series in the next year or two with that very same diesel...

I'm just glad that their finally coming out with a new 6 speed automatic that is capable of handling the torque and power outputs of the diesel...
