Subject: Magnaflow Catback Install
IP: Logged

Message:
Well I finally did it, I installed a Magnaflow cat back on my '05 Dakota Quad Cab 4.7.

Am I happy with it? Not sure yet.

So far I can see a slight increase in gas mileage, it looks great & The sound is a really deep, not raspy or any "poping" whatsoever.

Driving around 50-60KPH there is a nice tone to it, that you can hardly even notice.. There is a little drone when around 1800 RPM.

When accelerating or at WOT it really opens up and will get alot of attention, this is the part im not sure if its too loud.

Im gonna give it a couple weeks as I just installed it Friday night.. If I did want to quiet it down a bit would adding a resonator between the muffler and the cat help?

looks good and i think magnaflow was my second choice for a muffler.

nice looking truck, didn't the truck come with a resonator after the axle? if its to loud it would help, but i would give it time because you put exhaust on so you can hear that v8 roar.

Thanks.

Yes, the truck came with the resonator after the axle and also a resonator just after the cats.. the muffler was located between these 2 resonators.

The catback kit "upgraded" all the piping from 2.5" to 3" stainless (which personally is probably not nessesary for a N/A truck, but I havent really felt any torque loss going by my pants.)

Placing the resonator back in after the axle it out of the question.

I was thinking of sticking the first resonator back on, so the 2.5" to 3" transition would just be further back. Im not sure how much of a difference this would make.

You can sure hear the v8 roar alright. My friend said, "man really sounds like you have something under the hood now". Stock was just way too quiet for a v8

if the truck is still using the stock Y-pipe than don't bother with the resonator if you think it will help with tq. i think the whole back pressure thing isn't a big deal like people make it out to be. look at Graphitedak's truck it has duel 3in exhaust on the 4.7 with a better than stock Y-pipe and lost no lowend tq.

Yeah, the truck is still using the stock y pipe.

Im not worried about torque, the catback dosent seem to have hurt torque at all, not really sure if there are any gains. Its hard to tell.

My reason for adding the resonator in there is to quiet it down a bit. Let me know if you have any ideas.

Well I added a small 4x9 14" magnaflow just after the Y pipe, the exhaust then goes into the catback that has the 5x9 18" magnaflow.

The sound is perfect. There is NO drone and it still has the deep agressive sound. When you get on it still gets loud, very nice.

The extra muffler obviously quieted the whole system down just a little, but its still a straight through setup so you can be loud when you want to be. At highway, there is just a little rumble to let you know its there and not stock.

The mudflaps came from a local store called Vehicle Venture. Im not sure of the brand name, if I find out I will post it.

I only have them on the back, it really saves the paint from rocks and dirt, slush/salt in the winter (and now my exhaust tip). I didint buy them for the looks :-)
