I have a 93 318. What causes your idle to go up and down? I have checked the vacume lines and my pcv seems ok? It likes to stall at times too.

Check fault codes.

Could be an AIS or TPS problem, or a vacuum leak at the intake.

Pushing on the gas pedal makes my idle go up and down. What's do you think is wrong?

If you push on the pedal, its no longer at idle.

Is there a way to test for the AIS or TPS?

my idle reached a point where it used to bounce quite a bit between 400-1000. eventually the truck stalled on me at a stoplight. picked up a new TPS for around $25.00 and 20 minutes later had it installed. it immediately steadied the idle, which runs right around 550 with the A/C off, and 750 with the A/C on. I have a 2000 with a 4.7 engine. not sure how that relates to your idle problem, but a new TPS definitely did the trick for me...

THX for the help.
I think I fixed it - I had used a wire tie to hold a few wires and my thin pcv valve hose. I overtighted it, pinching my pcv hose. I redid the tie wire and its running fine now.
