Well, the question I would ask is, "Why"? Why did it blow again? I have 75K on mine and the gasket seems to be fine. Is there something wrong with your manifold? Or your repair procedure?

OTOH, I don't see any reason not to use JB Weld. It's not like you ever need to get into that area again. But I would probably use the putty.

I've used JB for a lot of things over the years and never once has it failed me BUT... I think I would have a problem using it on the plenum. You have heat and you have 2 differant metals. The differant heat expansion properties is the reason of gasket failure. JB has no give. ZERO and something has got to give. If the JB is what gives, I sure hate to be the one to try to clean it off the plenum without distroying it.Should the JB hold up which would not surprise me, you may well crack the plenum. At the least, when mine goes, It will get a nice thick aluminum plate to replace the tin one on there made by myself. Just not that dificult.

Like he said, don't use the JB, just buy or make a billet aluminum belly pan and you won't have any more problems.

If it ain't broke, fix it til it is.

first of all, if it blew AGAIN as you say, it will eventually blow AGAIN after you patch it up!

second, if that jb weld happens to break off, your going to have that crap bounce around and mess things up till in falls into the oil pan. no telling what its going to damage. do you really want that?

suck it up and spend $75-$100 and get a billet pan and gasket. problem solved.

Capt....Your right if a chunk breaks off it's going to do some serious dammage BUT.... From the intake it won't go into the pan. It will however get sucked into one of the valves. JB is like steel and it's going to ruin that valve and most likely the seat plus if it's big enough to hang up in that valve and hold it open there goes a piston. Depending on the amount of dammage done to that piston it is very possible you will wipe out the cylender wall. Could be bad enough to ruin the block. Think you get the picture here. Best situation would be if the piece is small enough to some how make it into the chamber and get kicked right out through an exhaust valve and out the tail pipe. Were talking mericals here but possible. Keep in mind. A BB can distroy a piston in secomds.

The intake is a vacumn chamber. Think I would put my money on it being sucked in.

I have to go with Forsetti here - Take a good vacuum to suck something that dense in, and vacuum will be lower with a blown plenum gasket. Either way, we're all agreed it could easily end up damaging the motor.
JB -please let us know who is right if you try it. Pieces could go both ways - maybe everyone's right ;-)

Kowalski..... I do agree with can go either way. But as I stated. I got to go with the vacumn side on a bet. Might be a close bet but I think vacumn would have the edge. No matter though. Like you said. Bottom line we all pretty much agree it's a no brainer not to use it. 140.00 huh. I just don't see paying that kind of money for something that can be made for a few bucks and a little time. Just my opinion here.

Capt....With all due respect, Your correct and I am well aware. I happen to have my own hobby shop in my yard. Not a lot I can not do out there. but here we're only talking a flat piece of aluminum. Very easy to mark out with old metal one and easy to cut out with a metal cutting blade in a jig saw. Most everybody has one of these basicly for wood projects. also need a drill. Most everybody has one of those also. The fastest way for these type of guys is a power saw, table saw or a grinder with metal cutting blades. So many ways without a metal shop. this is not the equipment I would use but it will work for the guy who has minimum tools. I wasn't trying to brag up or offend anyone with minimum tools. I have a habbit of expecting reasonable thinking guys working or trying to work on there trucks to at least have some assortment of tools or now a way or a friend to get it done. I'll just back off here. No doubt someone has a much better way other then spending 140 bucks.
