I'd like some suggestions on what to do with my '93 Dakota. It's the 5.2/318 motor, extended cab, and 4x4. I'm trying to decide whether or not to rebuild a 318/340 motor, or do some mods to the motor the way it is and save for a newer truck in the future. If I do some quick mods to the original motor in the truck, what does one suggest? Thanks!

The base truck is designed to be all things to all customers. Therefore, everything it does is a comprimise, and it doesn't really do anything as well as it could.

Before deciding on mods, it's important to decide what you're going to do with it. I could suggest a 4" frame lift and 2" body lift, bogger tires, and 4.56 gears. But if you're planning on some autocross time, those mods would suck.

Ha, I like the idea of lifting it...but I will say, I want to try and speed the truck up a little bit. Right now, as it sits, the truck moves pretty fast...I have no problem holding my own on the road..but I like the prospect of shooting for faster. I want an aggressive offroad truck, but not to the extreme.

4 wheelin or fast, you do have to pick one. If you don't then you'll end up with a truck that won't do either. The off road stuff is all about torque and gruond clearence, Fast stuff is lower to the ground for better handling also tires don't grow on trees last time I checked, so if you try to have both you'll spend alot of cash just outfittin your ride for each. If your a lotto winner and have cash to burn build 2 trucks.
