Okay...Here is how to do it the easy way:
1. Disconnect negative battery cable and remove Splash shield(this is the hardest part) so you have access to underside of engine.
2. Remove radiator cap.

3. Get a large clean bucket to catch the coolant.

4. With bucket placed under thermostat housing carefully remove hose clamp holding hose to thermostat housing. Allow to drain completely.

5. With bucket still under housing remove two bolts holding housing to engine and carefully remove thermostat by pulling it out. note** there will still be some coolant behind thermostat so keep bucket in place.

6. Remove the rubber gasket from original stat and place it around new stat then position it in housing as the one you removed. note** this is the only gasket that is used

7. Replace housing and torque bolts evenly to 115 in lbs.

8. Re attach hose.

9. Remove bleeder screw (located inline just to the left of radiator cap).

10. Using a funnel slowly add coolant back into radiator.

11. Add a little rtv sealant to bleeder screw and tighten.

12. Replace radiator cap and re-attach negative battery cable.

13. Check for leaks then re-install splash shield.

This is the procedure for all 4.7 liter engines. The housing is located on the lower left side of engine assuming that you are standing in front of vehicle facing engine. If all goes well it shouldn't take more than an hour to complete.

Good luck,

Craig

Save yourself some hassle do what the post above says BUT do not remove the rad hose from the t-stat housing, just take the 2 bolts off and pull it back a bit let it drain into a bucket, then take bolts all the way off and pull the housing off with the rad hose in place.Makes it much easier and dont worry about the robertshaw t-stat not having the notch like the stock one has it works just fine with the stock o-ring gasket

Takes me only 20 minutes, i did both my 4.7 on my 2 Daks. I left the lwr hose attached to the housing and make sure the seal(gasket) goes on the same way, it is notched for the notch in the housing and the seal has more thickness on one end to go into the housing. otherwise it may leak if not correctly installed.
