first off i have a 1992 dak r/c flowmaster muffler 3.9 the other night i was coming home from work and there was this 1997 chevy silverado 5.7 ext cab that pulled up beside me on the way home so i started to rev up my engine and so he stomped on it and let off we pulled up to a red light and i rolled down my windows and asked if he wanted to make a go so when it turned green we went for it. I got alittle scared cause he started to pull ahead and then my truck just left him. i must say i am very proud of my dakota

awesome kill! you put the 350ci to shame with a 3.9 v6 hahaha. i screwed with a kid in a chevy with a 5.7. he flood it and i was just cruzin at about 2.5k rpm. his was problem near 5k with the way the motor sounded.
watch out not all chevys are as easy.

Maybe so, but the Dakota is a good thousand pounds lighter, and has 230hp 300ft.lbs. tq.

raced two ricers on the way home from work sat nite.they were on either side revving their engines at the light.light turned green and the car on the right sounded like it farted and almost stalled.needless to say i took them both to 65 and had them by at least 4-5 cars.i let them pass me and then i wound it up to 95 and closed the gap in a hurry just to play with them.not even a contest.

I think the 5.7 was playing with you. if he started to pull away from you. he prob saw you wasnt a V-8 and wasnt worth his time. so you claim a ricer win lol.
as far as those numbers of 230 HP 300 TQ. those are the V-8 numbers of either the 5.2 or the 4.7. surely not the 3.9.

maybe to some stupid people power to weight ratio doesnt mean anything

3100lbs 180hp 230ft-lbs tq
1997 chevy silverado ext/cab
6000lbs (5.7 alot heavier than 3.9)
250 hp 315ft-lbs tq

GREG K you are an idiot. The heaviest 1500 Chevy made is weighs no more than 5800 and that is a 4X4 HD model the average 1500 4X2 weighs less than 4500. Acoording to the Chevy website. Which leaves the Chevy with only 1 pound per horsepower more than the Dak, and it has it has an extra ft-lb of torque for each pound of weight than the Dak. By numbers only, it should be a close race, in reality there are so many other things to take in, especially when power bands kick in, gear ratio's, driver response, tires, etc. Your claim is not justified.

I can see him winning but as for leaving him it would be a very slow getaway. i raced my buddy in his chevy 4x4 and I barely got ahead of him and pretty much stayed like that. But if you want to complain it also depends on circumstances...like weather or not the guy knew how to drive or was actually seriously racing him. But for the whole 3.9 not being able to win is false.

The amount of gas can change the hp/weight ratios.
A full tank of gas (22 gallon)in my dakota is noticably slower than with a near empty tank.
