I have a 99 rc r/t. Does it have traction control? A friend of mine that I trust about cars asked me and he said if it does to take it off because it can cause you to lose power for some reason. I didn't quite understand the whole thing.

yes it does its called your right foot. the true answer is no. it doesnt take away power it just keeps the rear wheels from spinning by monitoring the power and it can sense when the tires are breaking traction. this device is good for towing but for having fun on the streets its useless.

traction controls usually pull back timing to cut back on power until tractio is regained. i had traction control on a '99 Gran Prix GT. it could still lite 'em up with it on.

See, that is what he was telling me about monitoring the wheel spin. He said it will cut down on power to keep the tire from spinning. He told me it would be best to take it off. How could you do that?

i don't think traction control was an option on the r/t. if it was you should have a switch somewhere on the dash to turn it off and on. maybe one of the R/T guys will chime in.

Some vehicles cut engine power by interrupting the ignition. Dodge like to use the ABS, and apply brake to the wheel that's spinning. Which I think is a better plan.

Cars so equipped usually have a switch on the dash. But it doesn't really turn it off, it just turns it down. Unless you reprogramm the computer, there's no way (that I know of) to completly disable it.

I've never seen a dodge truck with traction control. Of course, I've not seen every dodge truck.

I do not have a button anywhere to turn it off and I also lit up my tires and no light came on so I guess it is safe to assume that I do not have traction control. Thanks for the info guys.

Man you guys.....

What he's referring to is the TORQUE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM that is a part of the PCM programming. This systems limits engine torque (and horsepower by definition) under a certain RPM. That's why you can't break the wheels lose very easily, then when you get it removed they spin like there's no tomorrow.

You need to get a Superchips or a new Mopar PCM for the '99 R/T....or have it reprogrammed for '01 and later.
