Subject: V6 Header Performance + Ceramic Coating

Hello All,

Had a quick question about header performance and ceramic coating on a 2000 Dakota 3.9L V6. Currently I have 122k on this truck orignal owner. I have done the underdrive pulley, fastmans Tb, Dynomax 17748 I believe, Cold Air Intake, Superchips and I am going to embark on placing a set of used JBA headers I purchased through an online ad on the truck. I was wondering about Ceramic coating and what kind of performance I might receive along with the current modications I have made in the past with these headers and coating. I believe the truck should maybe get another 5 hp or so with the headers and ceramic coating. I have gotten quotes from 7 companies wanting to do the headers and was wondering if anyone has had there headers coated and if you were pleased with the results. The cost to do these headers are going to cost between $125 to $200. All of the companies have been doing ceramic coating for over 10 years. What kind of gains are typical for this application of mine without doing a dyno. I know the stock v6 from this year are 175hp, hopefully I hit around 210 - 220 hp with the current mods and the headers together. Do you feel this is a reasonable limit for my application. Of course thats at the flywheel not the rear wheels.

Thanks,

Dickie

I don't know what happened to the members of this board, but apparently NO ONE has done this modification. Seems a little shady. Does anyone happen to know what I can purchase a set of header bolts and set of header gaskets for these JBA 1939 Headers?

Thanks,

Dickie

you probably wont make any extra ponies with the ceramic coating. all it does is look good and keep a little more heat in. on our v6's, headers really dont help much unless you plan on future internal mods like a cam, roller rockers, stroker kit. with the mods that you have now, you might get a few upper rpm ponies out of it, but you can expect to loose some low end torque. not trying to rain on your parade or anything, just some knowledge for ya.
