Subject: Goodyear Eagle Shudder?
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a set of 255/65/16 Goodyear Eagle LS on the rear of my Dak. So far they have worked out fine for me, BUT the temperature up here in Wisconsin has dropped to about 25 degrees in the last 2 days. It was then that I noticed that whenever I take a right turn the right rear wheel (one wheel wonder power wheel) shudders. It only occurs on right turns and with the right wheel only. COuld it be the rubber is cold and it skips along the pavement? I checked the lugnuts and they are all tight. It's not a axle problem, is it? Thanks alot guys.

your posi-less and therefore spinning the right tire for it gets all the power. left turns are not as sharp and therefore the truck doesn't break that wheel lose unless you want to impress that ugly girlfriend. j/k hehe

its normal!!

some mods to slow it down!

toolfan's right. but damn, i know i HATE those tires. the only reason i haven't gotten new is because i haven't got the money right now and they still have a good amount of thread on em. i hate the traction, just isn't any good for me, almost got into 2 wrecks from fish-tailing in the rain. my next tire is coming from bfgoodrich. location might have something to do with it, it's always humid and slick roads around here in alabama, 'specially when it rains.

i hate ("BAD"YEAR)eagles. my opinion they suck big turds. i replaced mine after 21000mi and should have replaced them sooner.i have a set of kuhmo's on the truck now. i got them for $112 each 255/55/17 (the oddball r/t size) that you can't get for under $150. so far they seem fine to me. a little more traction than the eagle and more meat on the treads.

What model Kumhos? Find it hard to belive that they would be better than G.Y. RS-As. Cheaper doesn't allways mean better.
Can you quantify 'a little better traction'?
My R/T had RS-As which were plenty sticky and had excellent wet (and dry) traction, both lateral and straight line.

Kuhmo model ECSTA 711.These tires don't spin as easily thus they have more traction. i have had RS-A's on two cars and have not been impressed with the wear(and it is just not the rear tires for those who think i try to roast them at every light).I had 27k on my 98 camaro 3.8l v6 and brought it to they local goodyear shop for some work and got a call back saying i needed all new tires and that the most tread i had on any tire was barely 1/4".
Even the goodyear dealer went to bat for me and called higher ups because he thought the wear was excessive and got me a different set of goodyears for 50% off. i am not knocking all goodyear tires. i am just expressing my opinion on the RS-A brand after two less than acceptable experiences.
Yes cheap is not always best but i got these at dealer cost through a friend of mine who owns a goodyear repair shop. i have 6k on the kuhmo's and have not had any problems.

I go to go a bit deeper here > He said only one tire does this and only turning the one direction > That tells me something is wrong on that rear axle/tire > Bad wheel bearing? Maybe > Better guess would be a slipped belt in the tire > Get it checked out in a tire shop > Or change the rear tires side to side > If it still does it turning right it's probably a wheel bearing > If it now does it turning left it's the tire >

it must be the temperature. during the past week the temp. has warmed up to about 45 degrees and the shuddering stopped. This morning the temperature was about 17 and it started again. Thanks for the input!
