Hmmm.. Maybe not just burning out but a lot of people around here throw it in reverse and then back into drive (auto ppl anyways)... and stomp it... And yes, I admit I was guilty until I realized how very stupid that is... That's some abuse right there

Fed,

for my truck, abusing a trac lok would be the 400 rwtq the motor makes.. haha!

no way i am going to buy one and risk breaking it.. i broke one when i had turbocharged my V6 and i also watched a buddy break one out on the trails... wasnt even doing anything amazing.

when i first did mine, i welded just the spider gears to the carrier. This way i could remove the pinion shaft and axles if need be. I broke this set up three times.. but it broke just the welds so i could still drive it under one wheel peel. Finally i got tired of it and welded the spider gears to the carrier, the spider gears to each other, the c-clips to the spider gears, the c-clips to the axles, the axles to the pinion shaft and the pinion shaft to the spider gears. It's been over a year and i havent broken it again..

so if you do it like intense.....
1) open diffy
2) obtain a welder
3) weld until you cant tell waht is what
4) replace cover, fill with oil
5) big fatty 400BB burnouts

that was pretty much it... just make sure you get all the fluid out of there. Axle grease fires arent all that fun.

hehe Fed.... ya, it was really stupid doing that.. I admi.. But I guess you know how stupid teens are when their first vehicle they didnt work for.. Ya... But I learned before I broke anything :-)

I do have a question about posi's... What would I need for an every-day driver that see's the strip fairly often? ANYTHING but the one wheeler! lol I'd really like to have both wheels spin all the time but I really dont want to weld anything..

trac - loc

detroit locker

they are good, detroits are the best but the trac loc is what comes with the dakotas, i just put one in mine and its fine in the street.

Yeah, detroit is the best and that's why it's ~$500 vs ~$250 for trac-loc.

hell... $250 is too much for a trac lok. You can find them for $150-175 @ www.4wheelparts.com

do they use the trac-lok on the R/T? how much are the sure grip posi?

i think the Chevy posis aren't all that great my buddies will disengage sometimes when he does burnouts.

i think abuse would also include doing burnouts from dirt to street. hehe

thanks Fed i have better pics but my dad was setting it up and use the pics he took. i have 3 pics with the truck riding on slicks.

and some mods to slow it down!

okay..

posi is what GM called their older limited slip devices

the trac lok made by DANA is what chrysler uses in their late model trucks.

the sure grip is what chrysler use to use in the older vehicles.

if you want stronger, go aftermarket.. such as a powertrax no slip system. It's $400+, but even a toolfan can install it.
