That's the 3.55 open diff laying in the left. On the right is the LSD diff with the new 4.56 gears :)

I got the bearings pressed on. Tone ring and ring gear bolted up. And the setup temp installed to check tooth pattern. I got it pretty close. But had to call it a night.

The pics make the carpet in your house and garage floor are about the same shade, coloring...

As I scrolled between the Pic's I said to myself, his wife's gonna cut his nutz off having that greazy ring and pinion in the house,,, then I focused and saw they were in your garage,,, guess your nutz are safe fro now... LOL

So how many hours are you into it so far,,, post back how long it takes to get rear end clearanced properly.

I was gonna get the gears, cams and tuner, but got suckered into buying 3 deep sea reels instead,,, yeah like $350 a pop. I won't be able to haul azz, but I can catch one helluva big fish now..... Maybe I should have got the truck upgrades so I could tow all those fish home. LOL

Oh BTW, what's up with the plywood with the holes in the center, using them to drive the bearings on?

What did you pay for them? You have 4x4 right? I am most likely going to step up to 4.56's from 3.92's depending on your review.

Nice pics, good luck with the install. I ordered my set-up today, same as Graph, Motive 4:56 front and rear with a Auburn LSD.

Sicminds, if you were asking me, I paid same as Graph, $880, from accu auto parts. Today they were offering free shipping, so I decided to take the plunge. Since I am not mechanically inclined, I'm having a driveline shop that does alot of work for a local off-road place do the install. That's going to run $600, wasn't the cheapest price I got, but I am more concerned with quality work.

That sounds liike a reasonable goal to me.

Earlier tonight I got it together. What a BIATCH this job was! Especially finding a torque wrench to read 25 inch Lbs!

Anyway. I hope I got it close enough. I took it for a SHORT drive to test it. Didn't wait long to get on it a bit.

All I have to say is I'm not sure if my 0 to 60 is faster, but should be. but now it spins BOTH tires instead of one (the 4.7 STILL has the torque to spin TWO tires from a dead stop) and my 5,000 Lb 4X4 AUTO tranny is barking the tires during 1st to 2nd shifts at about 40 MPH.

Just a TAD over 2000 RPM's at 65 MPH. Not bad for towing. Not bad at all.

I'll get a video. Hopefully tomorrow night.

I have a torque wrench that measures inch/pounds. If we were neighbors you could have used it. Oh well...

I Wonder, you will have to grind down the pin that goes between the spiders....

The instructions describe it correctly, but illistrate it improperly.

Make sure you grind it 90 degrees form the bolt hole opening. I caught it when I read and just imagined how it would be in the carrier housing.

Also make sure you get some bearings. My kits did not come with any.

Also, at one of the parts stores, AutoZone I think, they had to look up a RAM to get the right carrier bearings.

Hope that helps...

Graph,
Looks like you've got the pinion a few thousandths to high in the picture. Hard to tell over the net. Looks good enough though. Is this your first gear set install? To bad the 9 1/4" isn't like the old 8 3/4" where you could just change the pumpkins. Put this set in the front and the second in the back.

Yup. First time swapping in NEW gears. I swapped in some used ones before in a Chevy. But not in something I needed to be dependable.
Like my Dak.

I just towed 400 miles round trip. Talk about being nervouse!

Wont know until I get more time to drive unloaded and somewhat consistant!

Burning rubber from every other stop isn't going to give me an accurate MPG except for how to use the MOST gas :p
