Well, I finally got my superchips programmed on my 2003 rc r/t. The performance gains on the 91-93 octane setting are amazing. with no other mods I'd bet I'm breaking 14 seconds (an 03 reg cab r/t runs high 14's). I chirp shifting into second gear now and on some surfaces I even peel out shifting into second, and it's an auto!!!! this is the best buy for hp/dollar...It kind of upsets me that DC would restrict an engine with so much potential just to save a few bucks for the emissions and force you to buy a programmer to get the most out of an engine, but what else is new.
However, I do have a question. the info I read on the superchips tuner including info I read on this site says there should be an increase in mpg. I haven't really changed my driving habits and I actually lost 2 mpg..what gives? any ideas?

thats what i have been thinking about getting but just don't have the money.

the bad mpg is dew to spinning the tires more then before.

As toolfan says, bad mpg=lead foot.

I know driving habits play a big part in mpg however they haven't changed? I've always had a lead foot even before I tuned the engine..so even though I'm going to get bad mpg for having a lead foot, shouldn't it still be an improvement from the stock program?

ok.....my tires are fine...my truck has never had a problem, and as far as how I drive my truck, I paid a lot of money for that truck and not just so it looks good and has a good resell value...I paid what I paid for truck so I could have fun.
I'm definitly not going to be one of those middle aged, midlife crisis, men who buys a 60,000 dollar corvette and drive it around like "driving miss daisy".
the point is, I would of bought a v6 if I just wanted a truck to drive around at 25 mph.

i do...is there some law that says you can't care about speed and mpg? japan just came out with a battery powered hybrid that gets 39 mpg but goes from 0-60 in like 4.5 seconds (i saw it in wired magazine)..so why would that design a car like that if those who care about speed didn't care about mpg.
superchips claims better mpg...i'm not getting better mpg. I'm not to bothered about it but I'm a lil disturbed that they are claiming better mpg and I'm getting worse. if i cared that much about mpg I would of got a geo.

i just filled up so I'm going to take it easy on this tank of gas and drive around like I'm delivering the "mona lisa" or something. I'm hoping to get at least 16 mpg...

(although it's hard to pass up an oppurtunity at a red light when a 4-banger rice burner is next to you coughing through his fart can)

have you ever read the features for any modification that didn't claim better gas mileage? its marketing, most of which is lies. why do you think so many people bought tornados, then flipped out when they didn't get a 30mpg increase?

even if you did all the gas-saving mods out there and romped on the pedal all the time, you aren't going to notice any substantial increase in mileage, its called the gas pedal for a reason. driving wide open with no mods = bad mileage. driving wide open with plenty of mods = bad mileage, but more fun.

pretty much everybody has the same trade off to deal with. do i stomp the pedal, drive like an animal and eat the gas, or take it easy and sip the gas. a superchip isn't gonna change that. i had one and noticed no increase in mileage, but i didn't intend on it.

good point on the tornado...it amazes me that they can get away with it.

p.s. if you stick a cucumber up your exhaust pipe, you get better gas mileage!

Hey SteveRT you might want to patent that before someone makes a commercial about it and makes millions. We ought to have something like the surgeon general or FDA for Automobiles that tests all of the bogus products before they make it to market.

That's just for people that put on a performance exhaust and think they lost some low end due the reduced back pressure.

i gave up on getting good gas mileage.

since this will probably be my last GAS vehicle.
i wanted to sell my truck dew to the high gas price. glad i didn't. i plan i on keeping my dakota for a while and put tons of performance parts on it. who knows maybe these trucks will be worth twice as much in the future.

i think the genIII dak r/t will definitally be worth something in the future. It took me almost a full year to find an 03 graphite reg cab dak r/t and I know how rare this truck actually is...I'm babying the miles on it too. I only have 19,000

no, toolfan. I bought it from a dealership here in Boise, Idaho. considering the location I got a pretty good deal on it too. 18,000 with only 8,000 miles on it..and they threw in a 5 year 100,000 drive train warranty too.
I guess it's possible it could of came from cali...how long ago was your friend looking at it?
