if you have a sticker somewhere i think in your engine compartment that says something about a flash done. should have the date of when it was done.I saw this on my friends dakota when he was having his truck stalling. if yo udont have this sticker then you prob dont have it. I think its required to have this sticker on there to let other techs know what version is in the PCM and not mess the computer up.

if yo udo have it. the dealership wont put the original program back in and stuck with it. unless yoy buy a superchip programer and that will get rid of the flash. or get an aftermarket place to flash your PCM.

The death flash refers to a reflash that has less timing advance; not all those dealer flashes are bad.

The "death flash" was to reduce/stop pinging on the 5.9 engine (maybe others, too), by retarding the timing. Your PCM (inside the engine bay on the passenger-side fender) will have a sticker stating "authorized software update" or similar. It will cost you performance. I've heard people say before the flash they could spin their tires and afterwards they could not.

To get rid of it you'll need to send in the PCM to a place that flashes 'em or buy an external tuner like the Superchips or Hypertech.

I had mine flashed @ B&G Chrysler and was the best mod I did.

sweet thanks, i have it, bummer, but for some reason i have no trouble spinning them outa the hole, and i get an occasional chirp into second. Huh, so if i get this flash removed how much can i expect to gain?

Bigred - like 4.7 pointed out, just because you have a sticker indicating your PCM has been flashed, that doesn't always mean you have the "death flash". From the performance you indicate, it doesn't sound like you have it. Performance flashes are also available for many years like wtdash says; I am pleased with the one I got too - felt like about as much extra power as the switch to HO cams.

Im gonna wait to have mine reflashed when i get it dynotuned after cams, port n polish, headers, tb, intake, gears and stall. Who makes the software for the flash? the local dynosport says that the software wont be out for another 6 months.
