I'm looking to get my heads ported & polished next summer. 02 4.7. I know KRC does it but I noticed a post by somebody saying they didn't even machine his heads (sorry can't find it now to link). That kinda makes me nervous about KRC. Anybody had them work on your heads. If so how was the service and work. Dyno? Anybody know of anyone else who can do 4.7 heads. I've searched everwhere with no success. I'm not looking for crazy head work. It will continue to be a daily driver. Will probably also put in a set of KRC 206 cams at the same time. Same questions with the cams.

I'll do them for 300 bucks (full street port, not just bowls). I've never done a set of 4.7 heads but I have done a set of 340, 318, and 302 heads. All with great sucess. If you want to do it your self its not that hard. Heres how.

1. Get a dremal tool with flex shaft.
2. Use the metal cutters for alunium. Sanding rolls and grinding stones will clog up.
3. Take a permanate marker and shade in the valve seat (with valves out of coarse)
4. Put the valve in and spin to see where the valve acutally sits on seat. DO NOT grind this area. If you knick this area you will have to get the seat recut.
5. Open the bowls up. Clean up trash (sharp edges) and open up. DO NOT GO LARGER THAN THE SEAT HERE. Just taper it up to the seat nice and smooth.
6. Narrow the valve guides.
7. Clean up the ports.
8. The most important thing is the short side radius. Thats the area on the port floor that transitions to the valve seat. Smooth and round is the way to go. You want a smooth transition from the floor to the valve seat. If the curve is to sharp, the air/fuel ramps this area and piles up on the other side of the valve. NOT GOOD FOR FLOW!. Imagine a car turning a curve, you want the curve to be as smooth (circular)as possible. Any more your'll fly off of the curve. So no u turns. Many heads the a/f has to make a u turn at the short side radius. Not good.

Anyway, not very hard to do but VERY time consuming. I put about 40 hrs in my 340 heads on just the ports. Another 10 hrs polishing the chambers and cc ing the chambers. Im also going to port my 4.7 heads this summer along with krc 218 cams.
