If you're thinking of buying the cold air kit on ebay for a 2001 5.9, you might as well make it yourself. I had to hack a big piece off to get it to fit in the engine compartment. All you need is the K&N filter, a 45 degree elbow (female on one end, male on other), a 4" piece of 3" dia. pvc and two 3" hose clamps. I can post the directions on how to do it if anyone needs them.

NOTE: NOT MY DIRECTIONS. THESE ARE THE DIRECTIONS THAT CAME W/ MY EBAY FIPK CLONE!

I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE YOU MAY DO FOLLOWING THESE DIRECTIONS!!!!

3.9, 5.2, 5.9L INSTALLATION GUIDE

Preparation

1. inspect ABS tube for defects
2. inspect K&N airfilter for defects. filter comes pre-lubed
3. if K&N filter is not installed to the tube, follow this steps how to install filter to abs tube.
a. you MAY need a heat gun or a blow dryer(heat)
b. heat the opening of the airfilter, if you are using a heat gun,
make sure that you do not burn the rubber or the gauze material of the filter.
c. once the opening is warm enough push the tube (long end) into the filter opening. it will be a
little hard, the filter is new and it will need a little bit of work, but it will slide in. once the filter is in
the tube. go ahead and tighten the hose clamp and set aside.
*NOTE* do not over tighten the hose clamp

Removal of airbox and hose
1. remove airbox cover
2. remove airfilter
3. loosen hose clamps that are;
a. attached to the airbox
b. attached to the throttle body cover
4. remove nut located at the rear of the airbox
5. remove push clip located on the snorkle of the airbox, this is located towards the front near
where thie fender meets the headlight assembly. some models might not have this
6. the easiest way to remove the airbox is by pulling it up. there are 2 plastic screws holding them. these screws have a rubber bushing around them. by pulling the airbox straight up, thesebushing will stay in place and the airbox will just pop off. will take a little effort, but it will come off. you can try unscrewing the plastic nuts, but it will take more effort to do this. when you finally get the airbox off, then you can unscrew these plastic nuts if you desire.
7. place a clean rag on top of the throttle body cover. this will prevent dirt and contaminants entering your intake.

Installation:

1. install the rubber hose (included in the kit) to the other end of the tube. push it in about half way. tighten the hose clamp. attach the other end of the rubber hose over the throttle body top. lightly tighten up the clamp. when the clamp is snug. adjust the direction of the tube and filter. make sure that the gauze part of the filter is not rubbing against any hard surface. tighten the hose clamp. best set up is to have the airfilter end (rubber end) barely touching the top of my horns. the rubber hose is strong enough to carry the weight of the system. recommend that you have the filter pointing down. this will stop water from sipping in your intake. go and do a follow through. check every hose clamp and check for rubbing. make sure that nothing is hitting the throttle cables.

*NOTE* do not forget to remove the rag. (funny it may seem people have ruined a good cylinder head because they forgot to remove a rag).

2. start your engine, let it idle for a while, check your throttle cable, make sure there is no binding. take your BABY for a spin.
*NOTE* TAKE IT EASY FOR THE FIRST COUPLE RUNS. your PCM (computer is adjusting to the system at this time) let it adjust. so you do not get any annoying check engine light going off.

3. after the test drive open the hood and check everything one more time.

ENJOY!!!
