Subject: My truck is having issues.

Message:
I have a 1997 dodge dakota with a 5.2L, automatic trans. with 4wd. The engine has the following after market parts. Heads, cam, intake manifold,throttle-body, throttle-body spacer, bigger fuel injectors 24lbs, supercharger with 7psi. Note: All stock exhaust.
This is the problem, when I smash the throttle, the truck will start to take off and then about 3800 to 4100 rpm, it loses power. It feels like you have backed off the throttle, when you are still in it. It is almost like a govern, but if you slowly accelerate it will go fine all the way to 5300rpm. I was thinking that it might be dumping to much fuel in with them after market injectors, big throttle-body and flooring it out. Then I was thinking, no the supercharger was compressing the motor and as fast as the air was going in; the exhaust wasn't getting it out.
Please help..... thanks Russell

Those injectors are fine because of the supercharger. With all of the mods why the hell doesn't it have a decent set of headers and some sort of exhaust? The stock Y-pipe can strangle the air flow in those dakotas.

So you think that I am compressing the motor, because of the stock exhaust system. Well then I am happy to hear that, because I just bought some headers, and planned on putting a new less restricting exhaust system on there. I was hoping that this would fix the problems. Otherwise I thought that it might of been to much fuel, and was going to change to smaller injectors.
Thanks for the advice.....hopefully, the exhaust system fixes the problem.
Thanks again Russell

where do you buy aftermarket Y-pipes? and can you just change out the Y-pipe or do you have to change the whole exhaust?

YELLOW R/T: I have found that EdelBrock offers an after market Y-Pipe for the dodge dakotas. I do believe that you can buy it seperate from there entire exhaust system they offer. I also, think that it will bolt up with clamps and you will not have to redo your entire system.
(Don't quote me on all of that.....)
Check it and see for yourself.

I have had the computer flashed for all of the specified modifications done to the truck. It was done by a Mopar computer specialist in Michigan. I forget the name of the company.
Anyway at one point I was thinking that it could be the transmission, but I am still looking into it. The new exhaust system with the headers will be installed over this weekend or the next. Hopefully that will fix the problem. If it doesn't I will let you guys know.
Thanks for the support....Russell

Hey mike you wouldn't think that it might be the speed sensor, having anything to do with my problems?
