Yes I know this isnt the right spot for this question but more people look thru this section. I need suggestions for 255/55R17 tires. I love the size and looks. I curently have Kumho Ecsta 771's. They have worn a little fast and really like to drift in the rain. Any suggestions for durability and traction. Any other size tires you suggest? I'm new to metric sizing.
Thanks!
-Mike

Ooops. I meant Ecsta 711's. And traction is my probelm having a 5sp RC. And my traction in rain completely sucks. I know it partially depends on my gas foot. But bring on the suggestions!

I have a 2001 RC 4.7 5-spd 3:92. I bought a set of R/T 17x9 wheels and mounted Michelin LTX Pilot 255/55/17's. The treadwear is terrific; over 50K miles now, and still some wear to the tread indicators. Handling and rain are great, too. Just rotate every 5-6K, and 35psi. They were about $180 each, but when you factor in the performance and treadlife, they are a bargain.

I've had r/t rims for about 3.5yrs( 01' quadcab, 4.7 auto, 2wd). I'm on my 4th set of tires, I'm a lead foot and put on about 14K a year. I started with stock 255/55/17 then 265/60/17 yokahamas, then 275/50/17 nittos, now 275/55/17 toyos which are the correct diameter size of my orginal 16" tires, they fill the whell wells nicely. But next set of tires, going back to 275/50/17's. Alot more fun on the street for take off and cornering. Every set of tires no matter the size, manufacturer, or treadwear seem to have the same longevity. Try this website, it will let you compare and check out width and hieghts against the tires you have now. (http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp) Hope this helps.
Hey 01motorsport, do you do alot of highway driving, mixed or city driving. 50K miles is awsome. I could have paidoff my truck early if I could get that kind of tirelife.

I had Fuzion ZRi (Bridgestone) on my '02 w/17". They had great traction wet or dry and rode smooth and quiet. I only had about 12k on them when I traded so I can't talk treadwear, but for $107 each at Tirerack, who cares? For better traction, especially in wet, my previous Khumo Ecsta STX were the best. I got over 40k out of them but they were noisy and rough riding.

Don't get the Kumho Ecsta 771 265/60/17. I just put these on to decrease my RPM's a tad at 75mph (where I cruise the most). I figured my traction at take-off would go up since the have a larger contact area. NOT! It went the other way. I can spin these things at any speed below 30mph. They SUCK! I've never been beat so many times red-light to red-light. I can't even challenge a Cadillac Escalade. These things have got to go.
