Subject: Getting the Tires to Fit

Message:
I already posted this in the "Slammed" forum, but I wanted to see if anyone the reads this one might be able to answer also.

I have a problem that I'm trying to solve before I get the tires I want.

I have a RC 2001 sport. The truck is at the stock height. I have changed to RT rims and I'm wanting to get Nitto 275/65 R17 on the front. I have Goodyeat 275/60 R17 right now and they barely leave enough room from hitting the plastic part of the wheel well when turning. When turning the wheel, the tire gets as close as .5" from the plastic. I know the Nitto's are going to rub when I turn and possibly tear up something if I hit a bump while turning. I shouldn't have a problem hitting the metal fender.

My questions is... can I cut out the problem areas of the plastic wheel well to keep it from rubbing? Will it affect anything by allowing the water to spray up through there? Is there a better way to solve the problem? I really want these tires. I'm not worried about keeping the engine clean, I rinse it off every now and then anyway. All help is appreciated!

The difference in sidewall height between what you have (6.5") and what you want (7.04") is .54".
There's gonna be some rubbing.
If you don't want to lift it for the clearance, then you have no choice but to trim.
