Subject: Has anyone tried to port the stock TB/MAF?

I'm a new dodge owner, and I've had little to great success in the past by porting the stock MAF. Right now, I don't want to spend alot of money on the truck, rather get a few more goodies before modding the motor. However, I do plan on getting a Z-tube sometime in the near future, and I was wondering if hand porting the stock MAF would show any useable gains at all? Has anybody tried this? How does it compare to aftermarket TB/MAFs? I am familiar with GM's LS1 motor and I know that porting the stock MAF there does show significant gains, and I'm aware that this is a totally different beast so I'm asking for adivce before I begin. BTW, I own a '01 QCab, 4.7L, 3.92 Auto, Sport Plus w/ most all options. It's my first Dodge and I'll have to say that I couldn't possibly be happier with a truck, I'm in love.

MAF? We're Speed Density systems...MAP sensor. No MAF Meters on them. (Too bad, ProM has some of the best out there...working on a conversion project for this.)

As for hand porting, leav that up to the people who do it for a living. (One mistake and your TB is useless.) Flometrics has a custom Billet 68mm (and 70mm) Throttle body for the 4.7L that will be available by the middle of this month, Hughes Engines has some available as well.

The Z-Tube will also give you a little bit more "Pep".

You know, I've been doing some reading on it after I posted this, and I have realized that there is no MAF. My bad. Thanks for the info though. I just still can't beleive that noone has tried this.

Done what? Port the factory throttle bodies for the 4.7L engines? There's four people that I know who do this already. On the MAP to MAF conversion, it's not as easy as one would think. MAF is non-linear and MAP is linear. The conversion isn't a simple swap. The PCM needs to be reprogrammed (reverse engineered) along with air volume/density to fuel ratio conversions.

What i'm working on is using a MAF Meter (connected to the inlet port on my S/C) to check the voltages vs. the actual MAP voltages. Once this is done, I need to setup a programmable circuit which will do the conversion for me. (The formula isn't easy either.)

Kenne Bell has a MAF conversion on their 4.7L Supercharger Kit, but still use the MAP as a baseline reading.

From what I got from a few sources, the 5.7L Dodge engines will be using Mass Air (MAF). It's about time!! ;)

I understand that the MAP to MAF conversion is not an easy one. Fully understand that, wasn't trying to knock it, I know there is considerable work there, what I was referring to was the porting of the TB, which I originally assumed was a MAF. If you know of some people who have done it, then that's what I'm asking for, was it successful? It's not always helpful to spend an hour porting a TB/MAF or whatever, especially if there isn't enough material to remove or any obstructions that can be removed. I was curious if 1: Anybody has tried it, you've answered that, 2: Was it successful? 3: If so, how was it accomplished? 4: were there any problems? ie too rich/lean? Just looking for info here.

(2) - Yes...to a point.
(3) - http://www.fast4x4.net/tb_port.htm
(4) - You make one wrong slip and you can kiss your TB goodbye.
