I'd think at LEAST a 206 but depends on the engine and comression.

I'd ask KRC that one. Plus a LOPE is bad A$$ but most likely means loss of low end and almost need a high stall converter.

I know things very. I've seen a say Comp Cams 280H for a 302 (280 intake/exhaust adv duration) and .512 valve lift lope like a mother fakker in a small block Ford. That was I liked to run. The same cam number for a Chevy 280H was 280 adv duration but only like .480 or something valve lift and didn't lope quite as much. I liked the cam so much in the 302 Ford that I had used the same model in my next 350 Chevy. Both had at least 10:1 compression too. But the Ford loped really good. The Chevy not as much. But still did. The Ford puleld to 7K RPM's. the Chevy maybe 6500 if I really pushed it. BOTH with Holley Dbl Pumpers and good intakes.
And the same profile in some big blocks don't lope as good. Just depends on what match up you have.

I'm no expert, just what I've witnessed and some hot rod friends mentioned big blocks sounding more "tame" with the same grind of a cam vs a small block. Not sure on the validity of that though.

I have the 200 (HO) cams. With my mods it has a DEEP idle that makes my truck sound like much more than a 287. But doesn't lope.

I'm pretty sure after I go with better gears I'll swap out my HO cams for at least 206's if not something a bit more radical myself.

Oh. I'd also recommend getting a programmer before going too nasty of a cam. Would be a shame to "tune" your engine for higher RPM's and then hit that rev limiter at 6K.

hey thanks man i think i am goin with the 206's then that way i dont have to have to get a new stall but i will eventually so idk i might go with the 212's although i think based on what u said about your HO cams i think the 206's will do just fine, and a far as low end loss well i'll just have to deal with it, thank goodness i never tow anything. I cant wait till i come up with the money, nest paycheck!!, cause all the little camaro guys in town will be shakin in their little stock boots when they hear me rollin up!! thanks again and i'll be postin just as soon as i get them

Assume he has the 4.7 V8.
With him mentioning the 206 cams. That is what KRC sells for the 4.7 (287).

I still recommend TALKING to someone at KRC. I think I sent a few emails to them, which were answered, before I bought my HO cams.

Now that a few other things are available, programmer for one, I may have went more agressive. Now from what I know, if you go with the regrinds (206 or better) you will need the shims that come with them and they even recommend different valve springs. So in that case, it IS more money and more work. But to me it would be worth it.

There is one guy on here who did the bigger cams but used his stock springs and claims he's shifting close to 6800 RPM's and no valve float.
But I don't remember who that was and he was the only one who stated doing so. Everyone else I heard from swapped the springs.

lol... they sell 206 cams for all the motors.

you can get a little lob.. but with the lobe seperation of those cams, you cannot get probably what you are thinking of.

my little 218/224 .050 w/ 110 LS sounds decent in my big block.. but not enough. Getting a 240/246 @ .050 w/ 110 LS.. now that's gonna be a rough idle

OK. I didn't know them line of cams were across the board. When I bought cams for stuff like your old school BB it would be in advertised duration, or whatever. So I'd be buying more the likes of 280, 290, etc and around .500 valve lift. That seems to be about the limit on streetable small blocks still running vacuum accesioris and still getting a pretty good lope.

I WILL get me another old school hot rod some day. Got to get some bills paid first. Two many car payments right now :(

I asked my friend about the old 1973-1974 Duster in his back yard that's already stripped a great deal. He said he still had TWO Dusters in his parents back yard (In Northern/Central AZ). I think I'll take the one from him when I get rid of something. I remember at one time when my friend still lived at home (after his divorce) he had I think TWO running Dusters and like 4 more in his parents yard for "spare parts"!

I want that stripped duster so i can weld me a roll cage, maybe go a big block, (383/400/440, not sure) and I'm going to fabricate the entire speedo and gauges myself. Maybe go digital on some of the gauges. It would be awesome and be more of a "one of a kind" when you're not just buying pieces out of a magazine to bolt in :)

Or pull a small vacuum line. I still remember when I was getting my first car together('69 Charger....a moment of silence please..). Anyway, initially, she was a stock 318, but I was moving her one day and the dash was out. The headlight switch had a vacuum connection to open the headlights. I cranked her up and she had THE perfect lope. I'm talkin' jaws dropped and bug-eyed looks from everybody around. Tie that in with the performance situation of the time....circa 1984 (lame), and the whole buzz of 60's musclecars. Headers and turbo mufflers. Man I had to supe that thing up just to keep up with the local legend surrounding it. Even without the vacuum leak, and despite the smooth idle, it sounded like it'd absolutely kill the 440-powered GTX and RoadRunner that cruised the same turf. They had stock exhausts. Eventually, I did get it hopped up, but it never sounded so good as when that particular vacuum leak was present with that stock pipsqueak cam.
I hear ya GraphiteDak. One day I will have another B-body, hopefully a Charger.

youre right Graphite, most major cam manufacturers use advertised duration in the part number such as my xe262h. But KRC uses duration .050... and they have 206 cams for all the motors. Now crane and come sell cams just like the ones that KRC offers with the same grind but different part numbers.

go to summit racing and check it out.. i bet you can figure out who's cheaper
