I don't do much freeway driving but I usually average around 12 MPG on the streets. The AWD must account for the loss of fuel economy. I did get 18 mpg average on my trip to Bass Lake last week though.
AWD works very well for launching, I can slam it off the line and it won't even chirp the tires, it just goes.
The AWD takes the fun out of driving though, it's impossible to spin the tires, and even in the dirt I can barely do donuts :(
