Subject: Finally got the SuperChips for my 4.7

I was going to borrow my bro in laws new SuperChips programmer and try it out first since he lives down the street. But he already programmed his 2000 318 so I took a gamble and picked one up at Lopers sitting right on a shelf.

Glad to say it didn't give any error codes like some have had. I think they sell so fast here they are the most recent programming.

Anyway. Only had little time to check it. Checked for trouble codes first. NONE.

Programmed max performance setting for 91 octane. I have mid grade 89 in there.
Yup. It pinged. Either it's that sensitive with the advanced timing, or the gas station has 87 in their 89 pumps!

I drove it just long enough to see the 6000 RPM rev limter gone (I shifted it at 6500 and it didn't hit the limiter!) and the torque management is possibly gone. But a 5 min drive was all I had time for due to leaving to the baseball game.

When I go home tonight I'll try the 87 performance setting to see what it enables. Then try some octane booster for the 91 setting.

Then it's time to update my MODS list below :)

I guess you COULD get it cheaper online. But I got it INSTANTLY and it has 30 day unconditional warranty. So if I didn't want it. I could take it back!

And it worked on my 4.7 auto. So that's cool.

Android. It sure feels like it could almost do that. Except that I'm shifting at 50+ into 2nd. I need those 4.10's now!

Anyway. I tried the 87 performance and drove around to the store. It sure as hell had an improvement according to the BUTT DYNO!!!

Then I added some octane booster and drove over 5 miles to another store. Changed the programming to performance again. Still pinged just as badly!

So either I wont be able to run the higher setting or I got some sh*tty gas that octane booster wont cure!

I got a short video of it revving to 6500 RPM's and no rev limiter and no torque management. I'll encode that and upload it later.

I'm glad you like it! I decided NOT to mess with the rev limiter on my dak.. 6200 is as high as I will EVER need to rev my lil 287... mine never had a low rev limiter in park.. It revs all the way up to 6200 then hits fuel cutoff! maybe that park limiter is an 01+ thing? all this talk about performance makes me want to buck up and start buying PREMIUM again so I can run the 93 oct. setting :-)

I like your new sig too!

Yeah. Mine hit a limiter in Park at about 3500. As soon as you would hit the pedal, it would cut out!

Also, I noticed that it stops pulling before it hits any sorts of a limiter now.

Now I could use the much more agressive cams. But I'd certainly have to drop in my 4.10 gears or that would KILL my bottom end.

Last night I drove it some more after again returning to 87 performance seting.
I can no longer goose the gas for it will rip the tires clean off some times!

Maybe next tankful I'll try 91 octane to try the better setting. I think the only difference in settings is spark advance.
In 87 performance you still get the higher rev limiter, speed (I assume) and no torque management at shifts!

Definitly worth the $350

Plus it doubles as a diagnostic tool and should work on my 2004 Grand Caravan as well.

Oh yeah. The new signature took a few attempts to decide on something I liked. I think that one came out nice myself :)

Have you tried the Towing Program? Not sure what it will do, but it might improve the bottom end. It must also advance the spark because it also requires 91 octane. I could be in between and just right for you.

I tried the 89 with octane boost and mine ran nothing like it did on true 93 out of the pump. Most of the pumps here in East Central Florida are 93 with the occasional Hadji store running a 91 instead.

As far as the Towing program, I noticed a lot more pull when I laid into the pedal with about 200-300 lbs of stuff in my bed and my truck just about jumped out of the red light when it hit green. Been running 93 since.

Yeah. All we HAVE out here is 91, 89 (mid grade) and 87.
I almost think some of these a-wipes are using 87 in the mid grade for all I know!

Maybe I'll try a tank ful of 91. But in 87 setting it STILL rips better. I can't stop it from ripping tires very easily. Before I could hit half throttle and take off pretty good without ripping the tires. I do have somewhat wider tires than stock.

I made a short video right after I programmed it. It actually seemed to run BETTER after I drove it a few more miles afterwards. Plus it was a scorching 110+ degrees here in Phoenix when I made the video. the A'C was running too.

First Superchips test video

Just shows it revving to 6500. It seems to stop making any power right before that point. I may try my old home brew intake I fist made. It seemed to PEAK at the upper RPM's but was also very noisy.

Hurry up and burn that tank, i think you will be even happier on the performance setting. I have to use 93 oct for some reason though.

Glad to hear yours worked right. I ordered one a month ago. Got it and installed it on the performance setting. It ran somewhat better but not a huge difference. It did bark the tires when shifting to 2nd. That was neat. No rev limiter is also neat. I already prepared by filling up with 93 a few days before it arrived so it was ready. For the heck of it the next time I filled up with 89. No difference. No pinging and ran the same. Next fill up what the heck lets try 87 to see what happens. Still ran basically the same. No pinging. Maybe down a little on power. Then it happened. The dreaded engine light. Hooked up the Superchips and it said code P601. Bad PCM. Still runs fine. Strange?? Tried to pull out the program before I took it to the dealer. Wouldn't do it. Called Superchips. Said probably a programming problem. Bummer. Send the programmer back. Take truck to dealer to get a new PCM. Send Superchips a fax copy of the dealer repair ticket that proves they had to replace the PCM. Wait for programmer to get back. Hopefully it works right this time. Just not a good experience so far.

Man according to your video, that thing revs fast to 6400 The chip made a difference. Think if you put 4.10 in, you won’t need the cams….It will be fast…

My bro in law bought the exact same Superchips programmer a few days before I did and it's on his 2000 RAM 5.2

While it don't do jack sheet for shifting, it helped with some power and moved his limiter up higher towards 5500 I think he said. What's funny is my STOCK rev limiter was 6000!!!
Oh, and he also finally corrected for his tire size difference.

And yes. All day I've been DREAMING about 4.10 gears! I hope this 5000Lb brick can bark them tires. It sure as sheet shifts hard as heck now!

I also will later buy new cams much more agressive than the HO cams to move my power up higher once I get the gears. I miss a V8 with a lope and reving near 7K :)

get a good tank of high octane and hit the performance setting, you think it shifts hard now wait till then. i have a 2000 2wd auto 4.7 and on performance it freaking rips and pulls all the way to 6300, it barks second very nicely. for 300 bucks WELL worth it, oh i have 4.10 rear posi. i have tried many different intakes and the one i made makes the most power. maybe i can take a pic and you can design one like it. mine is of pvc, which i have found to stay way cooler than the metal ones i had.now all i need is either cams or kenne bell.

You gotta ask yourself one question...That Thing Got A HEMI???

HO Jeep Cams, K&N FIPK II, Gibson Shorties, F&B 70mm TB, Flowmaster 40.

P.S. I can bark my tires good and leave a black strip hitting 3rd, going bout 50 - 60 mph, and that is with a 5 speed manual, and 3.55 gears!

I didn't want to feel left out

A 4.7 with a manual transmission has more spark advance from the factory than the auto tranny does. With a manual tranny some have dyno'd about a 7 HP gain.

Okay, I'm ignorant.

I have a 02 SLT+ 4.7 4x4 and am intrigued by this chip. Right now, I just have a K&N drop-in and a spintech custom catback.

Please inform--is a chip something that I can just pop in and run with? Or do I have to pay someone to install it? Given my truck what chip do/should I get? Or where can I find this info?

/wants to fly a bit
