I just installed a 72mm throttle body and ho intake manifold. Install went well, but when I crank the engine, it revs up to 3500 rpms and won't go back down. I've cranked it 4 times now and it does the same thing. I need my truck tomorrow but I can't drive at 3500 rpms all the time. Everything looks okay to me. I also adjusted my tps to .740v. PLEASE HELP QUICK!

Thanks
Jason

My guess is you messed up your TPS. From what I heard the mod is useless anyways after a few days. But out of everthing you touched, the TPS seems like the colprit. They are about $40, but since it is the 4th, I would guess no one is open. Try putting it back to whatever it was to start.

Is your butterfly on your Throttle Body closed? Maybe linkage???

Could be TPS, could also be that the butterfly is too far open. It should be open only enough to get a good idle; additional opening will increase rpms. many mistakenly believe the factory setting is closed, with IAC adding enough air to idle - that isn't so, idle is tuned by butterfly. Adjusting this also changes TPS voltage, you will likely need to re-adjust. It would have been better to adjust this before modding TPS. I had to adjust the other way when installing a ported TB from a manual tranny truck on my auto, auto takes more power at idle so I had to open the butterfly a touch more to get it to hold an idle; never had to touch it again once it was set. Why were you adjusting TPS, did you have throttle lag ?

Okay, I have it idling lower now. I put the original intake next to the HO and found that the original had two ports with a black rubber sleeve over it and the HO only had one. The hole where the other one should have been was letting in a lot of air. I transferred one and it now idles at 700 when I first crank it. After driving it for a while, it idles at 1300, then goes down to 900 periodically. That's better, but I guess it's going to take a little while to have the PCM learn the mods. Does this sound normal? Also, now there is a whistle when I accelerate. Any thought on this?

Look for another vacuum leak. If there isn't one, as I pointed out earlier, the idle is adjustable on the TB.

Thanks for all the advise kowalski. I really appreciate you time in answering these questions. To adjust the butterfly, do you use the screw that stops the throttle from going too far back on the passenger side? As of right now, I'm glad I can use my truck. I had no chance with a 3500rpm idle. That was pretty scarey. Any other input is appreciated also.

Yes - the screw may have a security torx head if its like the stock TB - you can probably get the tool to fit it at a parts store; or just grab the protruding threads with a pair of needlenose to adjust it - that's how I did mine. If the idle's still high after you shut it down look for another vacuum leak.
