Put a 4.10 gear in it,that will give you some lowend grunt....Remember with a 4x4 you need to do front and rear at the sametime. You will lose some topend though...good luck and happy motoring

You could get a 50 or 52mm throttle body and headers. Shorty headers tend to help with low-end power, while mid/full lengths help with the mid to upper rpm range.

Thanx, Gears
Any idea how difficult/easy it is to swap gears in the front and rear.If I did do it I think that I would go for the 3.93's.Any thoughts on weather that would give me a reasonable change in torque.
Also would that increase the overall available torque, or would it just offer it at less of an rpm range, what about the throttle body and headers upgrade.
Any thoughts anybody?

By the way, whoever runs this site, hats off to them. It's great!!!!!!!!

If you are going to all the work of installing gears to make more torque available at lower speeds, you might as well go with 4.10's. It beats doing it twice when you are not satisfied with the small increase that you are going to get with the 3.93's.

Is there any way I can tell which gears I have already without jacking up the rear end? How much higher will my engine run with 4.10's, I have 3.55's right now,1999,5.2L 4x4, automatic w/auto overdrive

Gen1dak
Do you mean a high output cam, how much do those cams usually cost, part and install?

Thanx guys.

w/ 3.55 if you cruise at 1600RPM, w/ 4.10's it would be about 1824RPM about 14% diff.

I see that you are already running 31's. Your final ratio will be a bit less then 4.10:1.

Try this out for making your calculations

Roller cam and springs would be $350ish. Installation? Not a clue. CompCams has a great cam that really improves power with stock computer. As listed, it's an OEM replacement cam. I asked them what this meant, and they said it would work with no computer mods, but did require better valvesprings because of the higher lifts. Great torque and much improved upper rpm power. Now, no miracles here, but definitely better than stock. Gears are a great way to improve things so don't get me wrong, but there's always a cost, and with the 4X4, ya have to do it twice.

if u want the most for your money go with 4.56's. i am gonna get these on my r/t and thats with 28" tires. u have 31" tires so at 60 with the 4.56 gears u will only be revving around 2100rpm but the difference in acceleration u will feel is amazing. it will feel even better than swapping your 5.2 for a 5.9. basically u will be getting about 75 extra ft-lbs of torque to the wheels. go for it u wont regret it.

Before I do anything, how much torque can I safely put on my axleshafts, is around 400ft/lbs too much. I'm pretty sure that the rear is stronger than the front so can the front take an increase of 100 extra lbs, and I think I have wider than stock tires, so doesn't that put a little more strain on the shafts.
Please help, I want to make sure that I do things right the first time, not the 6th time.

If my rpms are at 2500 when I'm going 60 with the over drive off and at about 1650 with the overdrive on, can anybody give me a guess as to what kind of gears that I have. Sorry, I don't know any of the equations to figure it out.

You've probably got the 3.55 axle, those are the numbers I get.
