I was wondering what mods I can do to get some more juice out of my 318. I have Autolite PLatinum plugs and MSD Super Conductor 8.5mm wires, and a K&N FIPK II. I want to get more take off than what I have, but don't want to get to extravegant with the mods. What I mean is labor intensive and $!! Any ideas would be great!

headers, exhaust, custom flash PCM, gears

other than that you get into the expensive stuff like Cam, Re-Built Heads, Roller Rockers, Intake Manifold.....etc....etc

just my two cents

I hate to point this out to you, but so far you have not done anything to increase power.

Platinum plugs: Their only claim to fame is that they last longer; which is not a bad thing. Some people report poor performance with those plugs. I've never used them , so couldn't say for sure.

MSD Plug Wires: They have the capability to carry high voltage. However, your stock ignition system doesn't produce, and your engine doesn't need it. Sort of like replacing all your fuel lines with -12 hose.

K&N FIPK: Enough has been said about that.

So, what can do do? First and foremost, reprogram the computer. That is fast, easy, and cheap. Definatly trhe most bang for the buck - depending on year. With the added timing and fuel, change to a 180* thermostat. You won't get more power from it, but it keeps the engine cooler and prevents detonation.

Second, change gears. At least 3.92, but also consider 4.10 depending on your set up, driving conditions, goals, etc.

Third, fab up a real cold air intake system. Even a simple open element air cleaner will do, as long as you can get cold air to it.

Everything after that will make some small improvements, but the bux:hp ratio gets a lot worse.

I know my plugs and wires didn't do much, that is why I am looking to upgrade my ignition system. Any ideas on what is better, let me hear em! But as far as my K&N intake, I have felt great gains both on take off and when I am going to pass someone on the Hwy! Also, any suggestions as to how or where to get my Computer reprogramed? I know there are those cheap ass chips on ebay and all. I know it can't be those! So Any help would be great!

I used a Hypertech on my '01 5.9. Dramatic improvement in only a couple of minutes. Also try Jet and Crane.
