This is a stupid question but i'm new to this....don't know a whole lot about engines so, what does HO Cams stand for and how do they improve the performance of your truck? Sorry for such a lame question but i'm trying to learn what I need to do to get better performance out of my truck. It's a 2003 QC 4.7 4x4.

They are from the "high output" 4.7, originally available in the Jeep for years before the HO 4.7 was offered in a Dak. They offer most of the torque gain of the entire HO package.

Thanks Kowalski. So would I need them for an 2003 or do the newer ones come with the High Output 4.7?

HO 4.7s are supposed to be offered,or are now being offered in the '05 Daks; if it isn't a HO 4.7 they don't have the HO cams. Any older 4.7 Dak did not come with them, nor do the '05 regular 4.7s.

it seems that the Jeep HO cams, or the Jeep HO motor all together had 260 HP, and 335 TQ, but now the 2005 Dakota HO has 260 HP, and 310 TQ, Why did they reduce the power.

I am glad I have the old HO cams,

The extra resonator on the '05 exhaust system is most likely to blame for the HP loss. The 4.7 was changed in 2005 to improve the fuel economy, supposedly. Incidently, the 2002 Jeep HO 4.7 was 265 HP.

I found the cam swap to be one of the easiest I have EVER done on a V8. Probably because it's OHC instead of in the block :p

Anyway. If you want some pics of my install, click on my signature banner. I take pix of everything I do, weather it was a good mod or not.

Also, I kind of wish I had done the next step up or better on cams. But the price nearly doubles as you need the valve lash shims due to the cams being a re-grind. And with some radical cams, yoy need to replace the valve springs too.
I would LIKE the more choppy idle and the PEAK you get at higher RPM's. I plan on doing a gear sawp too but am lacking on my mods schedule right now!
