"You" were personally met with "sarcasim?"

Well, as long as you are still hanging in there, what do you think of the valve overlap on the R/T cam vs. the 5.2? Could it compensate for its rather anemic lift?

Does the bible discount that too?

Okay, wait. That bible thing threw me. So naturally, I'm thinkin' you're trippin', but you meant the MP Magnum bible, I take it? Now what's the question? The Magnum RT cam has more duration/overlap and more lift than the 5.2 cam, and it performs accordingly. It makes more HP (from greater lift), and makes more torque at a higher RPM (from greater duration/overlap). No mystery there.

No, I think you are confused. Don't you recall that earlier you had stated "Anyway, the vaunted RT has a miniscule .410" gross valve lift. For reference, the 5.2 has .432" lift?"

You seem to be talking about two different R/T cams at the same time. I'm currently referring to the .410 cam which has an overlap of 41 vs the 5.2 cam's overlap of 31. I can see why it would adequate for the 5.9 but don't really know how it would perform in the 5.2.

It seem to perform ok on the R/T but only because it has larger valves allowing more flow with more overlap yet less lift. Although I agree with you on the basic theory that lift is generally the most important characteristic of a cam, overlap may play a bigger roll when comparing the 5.2 and 5.9 cams.

"Yes, the stock OEM 5.9 camshaft would reduce performance in the 5.2. Slipping the 5.2 cam into the 5.9 would help the 5.9. The Mopar Performance Magnum RT cam, however (lifts of .458 intake, .467 exhaust) would kick up either engine thanks to higher lift, and a more aggressive cam profile."

I addressed the OEM 5.9 cam early on, so I thought you must have been asking about the aftermarket MP cam. This is basically the same cam profile the 360/5.9 has had since the early 70's. It makes no sense to me that Mopar never cranked up the cam for the 5.9 to really get some muscle out of it in the 90's. Putting it into the 5.2 would reduce peak HP. The increased overlap would spike the torque curve a bit (mildly higher peak, at higher rpm, while reducing upper rpm power...this is just the opposite of what you want to do, especially in smaller engines). Now, would it be drop-kick huge? No. It'd be hard to pick up on the seat-of-the-pants dyno, but using the 5.9 cam would not be an improvement over the 5.2 cam.

No, I was only talking stock cams. I agree that a stock R/T can would not improve the performance of a 5.2. That said, it does not mean that I necessarily think that a 5.2 cam will improve a stock 5.9. If the heads were identical then it would be a different story. Let's just say that I wouldn't be willing to bet that the 5.2 cam would be an improvement based soley on its increased lift.

Too much lift not enough duration will get you off the line quicker but I'll pass your ass before the finish line in a quarter and if we go to the half mile you might as well get out and take a whiz

My comments were directed at this entry, which opened the door on crude. If you can't take it, don't start it.
