Subject: swapping a rearend
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 2001 motorsports dakots (4.7, auto) with a 3.55, open, drum 9.25" rearend. I found a 3.92, posi, disc rearend (didnt count bolts believe its a 9.25) from a 02' dak. Can anyone tell me what is involved with swapping this into my truck. Mainly concerned with brake booster, proportioning valve, lines, parking brake setup. I want the brakes to properly function. Thank you, Lee.

Should be a "bolt in" type deal. Make sure you get ALL of the parts that you can. Diff, e-brake cables, master cyl, etc. If both are 9.25" you'll be even farther ahead, no need to swap u-bolts.
A great weekend swap if it's priced right! Good luck, post back here when you're done.

You could get rear discs on an '02?

Curious, how much did you pay for the rear end as Ive considered the same swap for my '02 with a 3.55 open diff drum brakes rear.

'02 Sport 4.7 auto, Gibson exhaust, homebrew K&N cold air, 275/60 BFG Radial T/A's, Infinity CD w/Pioneer & Infinity spkrs & Kenwood powered sub.

go to www.car-parts.com, its a salvage yard swap site you can find anything there. I am going to go to autozone this weekend and match-up part numbers on the metering/proportioning valve, brake booster, master cylinder, parking brake. I assume that the brake lines are the same to the rear block where the single line splits at the rear axle.
