how much of a power increase,? Low end. or Top End?

just curious,

an underdrive pully kit, Socal Dakota states a 8 + HP increase and a 27 + lbs of Tourque for the 4.7L motor, is this accurate?

I just installed a set of march underdrive pulleys, included the crank, water pump, and alternator. They look really good and it felt like it probably did produce a bit more power, probably throughout the range.

A word of caution, if you run a lot of electrical stuff in your truck or do a lot of city driving at idle or low rpms, you may want to reconsider. Even just running my headlights and cd player my alternator can barely keep up at idle, I can definitely see the headlight dim. Obviously, if you maintain some decent rpms, like in highway driving, you're fine. It just seems that at idle and low rpms the alternator has a hard time keeping up.

yeah, the crank alone shouldn't cause overheating or charging issues. I think the kit from Socal is all three, read the listing closely, it should say. the biggest pain is gonna be that alt pulley, unless you've got an impact gun its not gonna want to come off. for the price, I'd say you're better off leaving these until you've milked everything else... cams, headers, etc...

just looked, so cals pulleys, are listed by year, they offer two for 235, the one for the 4.7 is the crank alone, the 5.9 is the crank and alt, just remember the cost is high bc the 2000 and up had a one piece halmonic balancer/crank pulley... if you wnat three pulleys, alt crank & water pump you'll have to swap out to an earlier style harmonic balancer with the three bolt pulley design.

yea, that was the one I was looking at athenianR/T.

I thought it was the crank alone, that is the only one a really want to install anyhow.

here are my mods sofar, so I think I will get the Pully Kit for the 4.7.

Mopar HO cams

Gibson Headers

F&B 70mm Ported TB

K&N FIPK II

Flowmaster Exaust.

P.S. I wouldn't even think of getting the Pulley if I didn't have these mods.

thanks for your advice.

Been there, done that with another vehicle. Wasn't worth it. Even if you did get 8 horsepower, so what? You can't feel it. You'd be lucky to even see it on a dyno run. There are better ways to spend your money and time than changing those things out. I wouldn't even mess with the alternator pulley, not worth whatever trade off it gives you when it comes to electrical reliability.

You could say that about almost every mod. Five hp here, eight hp there and another six here all add up. In this case that's nearly twenty hp. I wouldn't want to judge which ones are worth it an which ones. If one had to judge them individually they probably wouldn't do any of them.

You can talk HP, but you drive TQ, from what I hear, the Underdrive Pulley adds a pretty good amount of Torque.

From SocalDakota,

27 + TQ, Is this Accurate?

HP or torque, the main benefit is that it lessens the load on the pulley system, allowing the engine to REV faster... so it will add something, even if you don't see any numbers change... and yeah, 5-10 HP won't show much by the time it hits the wheels, but its HOW MANY 5-10 HP gains you can add that makes the difference. thats the main benefit of a free flowing muffler.. NO matter what anyone says, a muffler hardly affects the power an engine can produce, but it can allow it to build that power much faster. try it on a dyno, and seee how sharp the hp and torque curves build up too.

I saw that also at the ASP site they claim 8hp+ and 27lb tq+. If this is true that's substaial and I will be adding that to the engine I am working on for sure.

Those numbers on my website are from ASP directly-- I can only go off that for now.

On my 5.9L, combined with a Viper fan (no clutch fan) the increase off idle was BIG.

Worth it in my opinion.
