Subject: Magnaflow y-pipe?
IP: Logged

Message:
I've read a couple posts mentioning a magnaflow Y-pipe and have also read that the stock one is fairly restrictive...I've looked on Magnaflow's website and cannot find a y-pipe for the 4.7.

Does this thing exist? Where can I find it?

Thanks!

From the Magnaflow site: www.magnaflow.com/02product/02hardware.asp I just had some mods done to my '01 4.7 system last week, including a 10778 Y-pipe and 94019 free-flow catalytic converter. So far, the most notable differences are the louder sound and improved gas mileage (about 1 mpg). The small 2" pipes after the pre-cats were replaced with 2 1/2". The 2 1/2" dual into 3" exit Magnaflow Y-pipe replaced the dinky factory y-pipe (that necked down to about 1 1/2" from each bank split by a dividing center plate into 2 1/2" exit). The Magnaflow (Carsound) 3" converter replaced the 2 1/2" factory "third cat". This led into the already existing Flowmaster 70 II with 2 1/2" duals. A good bit of work for the muffler shop, but the results are awesome. The engine is doing less work in everyday driving to perform the same task. My Dak has HO cams, "true" TB mod, and homebrew air intake to compound the airflow improvements. Really, the factory y-pipe is a joke, unless you are into bone-stock.

Hmm...I may look into some real exhaust mods after all, but I need to quit spending money on the truck and keep putting it away.

On that note, can I do it and would it make much difference to just cut and install one of those smooth transitions on existing piping? I might have a muffler shop cut and weld this one if its worth doing...

Thanks, much help!

From the info Ive gathered on this forum I think the y-pipe is the most restrictive part of the exhaust system, so I think it would be worth it to just replace that. I am going to do that as well as a hi flow 3rd cat at the same time. I already have a magnaflow muffler.
