I am considering buying a new exhaust for my 2004 4.7. I am thinking about either a Borla or MAgnaflow system. I have two questions. One: which is better - Magnaflow or Borla? And what does the term "after cat" mean exactly? Does it mean that the system is from the muffler back? Can anyone give me a little insight? Thanks!

After cat, or cat back, means it replaces everything behind the catalytic converter.

Which is better? Depends on what you mean by better. Borla is stainless, but is also very expensive. Magnaflow is aluminized, so is somewhat cheaper. Depending on where you live both will probably last forever. The stock exhaust on my '01 is still in excellent conditon with 65K miles.

If you're looking for extra power, you won't find any. The only real reason to change is simply the sound. It's so much cheaper to change the muffler only.

Have ord catback frm Heartthrob for my 01QC4x4
(the one w/dual tailpipe muffs) $213 + shippn.
It is a straight thru sys. However I am puttin a 3"I/O 30" glaspak before the splitter to tone things down a bit. I prefer straight thru over turbos, as they dont disrupt the exhaust PULSE.
Due to $$$ I an keeping the dreaded Y pipe w/all converters, but even true duals have unbalanced ex. pulses (due to firing order)& the Y pipe fixes that(but is restrictive) Will post as goes. Good luk w/ yur truk. krellco

Those tailpipe mufflers that come in the kit you ordered are going to rust away and flake apart in no time. Also, the kit does not give you any brackets to support the weight of them, they are only held on by the u-clamp where they connect to the tailpipe. Also, even though heartthrob advertises the system is fully aluminized, it rusted through in a few spots on mine in less than 3 years. I live in new jersey though so maybe you have less humidity where you live. And good luck if you have any problems with the fitment. Mike Forbes, the owner of the company can change his attitude very quickly once he has your money. Just a heads up from someone who has done business with him.

Yo Randy-we meet again-I remember your prev neg
post re:Heartthrob ex prob-& I know i'm taking a chance on this, however I verified for correct kit # for my 01 Dak, & spoke w/Mike & RE_VERIFIED
correct # to ord, & will ck on avvival before opening box for correct #. As far as rust-thru, they dont salt the roads here in 'Bama, but I clean & HI-Temp Paint all EX parts before installing (unless $tainless) For fun, been running w/just trundown after 3rd cat-loud & louder, but pu 2mpg avg-well see how new sys does.

well, let us know how it all goes together. Hopefully the problem with the fitment I experienced was because my truck is 2wd, and hopefully (for your sake) the exhaust is made for a 4x4. I believe the suspension is mounted differently in both trucks. And like I said before, I had ordered the kit with the muffler, not the resonator kit you ordered. My experience with the type you bought goes back to my old chevy 1500. Fitment was not the issue on that truck, it was just how the resonators hung. Good luck -Randy

Installed HT catback kit Sat aftn-ALL pipes fit well & no mods necessary HOWEVER: 1-incorrect main hanger clamp(uses double fact rubber donuts)
sent, & 2-resonator tips have baffle pipe installed with the baffle openings facing toward the rear(exit) This makes for a fairly LOUD sys.
Emailed Mike this am & his response was "you must have gotten a hanger for an older DAK". HE made NO offer to send me correct part.Baffles r correct.$258 so far & will b inst.addl glaspak 2quiet dn a bit.Work in progress-posts 2 follow.
