Subject: must I replace the intake bolts at swap?
IP: Logged

Message:
I have heard somewhere that the bolts have to be replaced when swapping the intake manifold out. what for? are they strecth bolts? has anyone tried to reuse them? I'm thinking that if I have to replace them, I'm going to use stainless bolts from the hardware store. I don't see the point in blowing 14 bucks for a handful of bolts, when I can get reuseable bolts for around 5. any thoughts?

Yes they do suggest you replace the bolts when you remove the manifold...there should be 15 of the bolts, part #6034583 and they only cost 25 cents a piece from your local dealer.

whoa, Okay, I was WAY off on the cost, I've seen em advertised as sets from 12-15. .25 cents each isn't too bad. Looks like I'll be calling my local stealership! Thanks!

While they recommend it, dealers don't always replace all of the bolts. They only ones they are required to change are the ones near the water cross-over. Like 04Sport pointed out, they are cheap.

Okay, went to dodge, the part number that is above is wrong, its the number for the belly pan bolts. the intake bolts at the STEALERSHIP are 1.50 each. for a friggin bolt. not gold. not titanium or kevlar. just a regular friggin bolt. sorry, I'm a bit tweaked at dodge right now. install went well, only broke the coolant temp sensor. I can't wait for the final adjustments which I plan on doing tomorrow, and for my Computer to relearn itself, and the new values... ported polished heads, intake, chopped the runner length, port matched the TB, polished the snot out of everything! I got a stupid check engine light from the busted CTS, but that'll be replaced tomorrow. ahhh, the pursuit of Horsepower!

when i use to buy the intake manifold gasket kit, they came with new bolts. Now they do and i argued with the dealer about it saying they ripped me off on my bolts but they say ya dont need to replace them.

just be sure to go thru the torque sequence several times as they are a stretch type of bolt.

You are right. The correct number is 6035967AA and it is twelve bolts and not fifteen. I just bought them from a dealer for .60 each.

Intensedak39 are you the same as the website> Intense-dakota.com? if so, love the site, it helped me get started on my beast...
yeah, I figured out that they stretch. I had to do the torque sequence what seemed like 20 times! actually it was about 6-7 times, but it was getting close to my works closing time and I was trying to slam my truck back together so I wouldn't be walking home!
btw to all, if you get the time, and have the ability and tools to have your truck down for a day or two, port and polish REALLY wakes up the 5.9! just installed mine today, and it really puts some major umph into acceleration!
