CThomp,
Yea I'd have to say chromed steel too, no way thats aluminum. Pull that SOB in second hard with the shift stop all the way out, then tourqe it down. (dacuda saya 100 ftlbs) I did 50 ftlbs. then readjust the shift stops top and bottom.
That made mine stop hitting the dash.

Yea the 100lbs is a guess, but I used the two wrench trick to get that extra torque.

As far as the noise, you just get used to it after a few miles. Kind of gives that old muscle car feel.

Problem solved. Dakota now shifts like a sports car. Almost of the the vibration is gone and probably 75% or more of the noise it gone. My truck is now like shifting a whole new vehicle.

You have a 2000? I always thought you had a 2001. Either way if you have a 2001 and can make it work for you then I recomend it. My truck was becoming less enjoyable to drive before I re-adusted the shifter. Now running errands and the city commute have become fun again.

So what about starting in 2nd gear at the track with the NV3500? I remember Jeffster tried it for awhile... then he disappeared soon after he damaged his engine.

I start out in 2nd from every stop. 1st is a granny gear. I use when I tow, something.

2003 4.7: I think you might have other issues beyond what I delt with with my shifter. I guess you'll figure those out when you get to them. The shifter has breathed new life into my tranny though. I thought my tranny was a sh!t box but it was just poor shifting.

I think after 2001 the dash board slap became more of an issue. But i'm, loaded so good luck to you all and good night

Yea man! Seems that i've had nothing but trouble with this one. From about 250 mi it's been shifting eraticly, refusing to go into gear sometimes, and recently whining and rattiling at cruise in fith. It's been to DC several times with the generic answer of "normal operation" yea my ass. anyway I figured I'd finish it off and have them eat it under warranty and see if thats normal operation. Thank god i did'nt have this much trouble out of the old '95, or i'd have wound up with one of those automatic nightmares!

Any of you guys have problems with the front main seal leaking?? In the last 5yrs I had my 2000 Dak the seal leaked at 19,000 miles and now again at 34,000 miles. Thank God I have 1 month left under the powertrain warranty. But this is BS!! I'm thinking that the Amsoil HHD oil might be causes a problem??

I wonder if the new 6spd in the 05 Dak's would bolt up in our Gen3??

Thanks,
Anthony

have'nt had any problems with front seal. But the rear seal on my old dak seeped incessantly even with new seals. I've thought about the new six speed, but after some reaserch it seems that it's just like an NV3500 with a steeper first gear. I could'nt find a dealer around my area that has one to drive though.
