Kowalski,
"hybrid - You ask what causes pinging, and when I respond you claim to already know and offer to explain it to me ? WTF ? You seem to think carbon deposits cause detonation by increasing compression. Actually, they cause detonation by creating hot spots that can pre-ignite the fuel before the spark plug does."

Wrong buddy, Somebody mentioned carbon build-up and raised compression.Thats where that came from. I didn't ask what cases pinging in general, but I was asking what causes the pinging in the dodge 4.7ltr. Sorry If I wasn't specific enough.I guess I need to treat you like a woman and s p e l l everything yout for you.

You make these fallacies(used in the proper context), then hide. Great way to make your point.
You say that we deserve each other, when in reality it looks like you guys deserve each other. You both like to pick and choose what you want to read then make statements about that perticular part. Try reading things for what they are then maybe you'll have a valid statement.
I don't know where your from N56629, but gas around here is $1.83 for 87, $2.05 for 89, and $2.15 for 92. I've never once seen 87 and 89 the same price. Gas doesn't go on sale, the price just fluctuates. At least around my neck of the woods

LOL. Using that lame logic, there is no such thing as a sale. The price merely fluctuated.

"At least around my neck of the woods."

Gee, I thought prices were equal all over the US.

NOT!

In this neck of the woods the local station has a sign for things they have on sale. About once a week that sign says "SALE Super Unleaded $1.82" That is usually either the same as Regular or $.01 higher.

I think you and Kowalski deserve each other. You both live in your own obtuse little worlds.

"But it's not going to raise it from say 8.5:1 compression to 9.5:1 compression."-hybrid

Oh really?
Again, from the Pros (Mopar Performance/guys like Larry Shepard) who know what they are talking about:
"Blending (gasoline) is troublesome and offers many opportunities for error. The 9.5:1 engine will also "carbon-up" to an actual 10:1 or 10.5:1 in a few thousand miles. Now you're in trouble and there isn't a good solution, except less spark advance, and that's not good for performance."

So, as you can see, .5 to 1.0 full point increase, due to carbon buildup is easy. It'd be no different for an 8.5:1 engine. This is especially critical in a vehicle that is tuned near the limit for a given fuel, particularly smaller engines that need all the available power they can muster, as well as pass emissions, and meet fuel mileage goals. The auto makers don't care if, in 10,000 miles, the engine starts rattling from carbon buildup. That's a perfect tool to get the vehicles into the service bays for some easy money.

Man this is getting old. I really honestly feel as though I'm having a conversation with a woman who picks what she wants to hear, then twists that to benifit her in a way that makes her feel better about herself.
I'm through with this topic after this post.
gen1dak,
Thats great and all, and I'm sure it's 100% correct but it means nothing to me. There are way to many variables. Thats just an excerpt from something, what I don't know. They could be talking about anything. A lawn mower for all I know

It's been nice chatting with you.

Super was on sale for $1.85 at Bill's Superette this morning in Andover. If you want Regular, sorry it's the same place. The sale usually runs all day so Kowalski and Hybrid better get down there and take advantage of it.
