Seems to be some problem with the old R/T doesn't want to stay started, symptoms include a very funky idle and flickering lights. I can start it but the rpms drop to about 300 and then jump to about 1200 and then to 200 and then it dies. It does this over and over and over again. I'm really hoping something is broken that I can replace with a performance part. I've checked the obvious things like vacuum lines and fuses but that doesn't seem to be a problem. I'm hoping my computer is hooped so I can buy a mopar performance PCM or get a custom flash.

Just a longshot that is often overlooked....have you tested the battery? Sometimes a weak battery, that will still start the engine, will keep the AIS motor from getting the proper voltage.

Not something I have tested yet, work is preventing me from doing anything but the simplest checks on the truck. I'll get it checked out come Friday though, no access to any toold before then.

Beginning to think it might be the IAC. Perhaps the TB isn't opening enough or at all during start-up seems like the engine is starved of oxygen. If I hold the RPM at say 1200 right after I start it for about 45 seconds everything works fine. Guess I'll have a mechanic come take a look at it I'm done poking around, I cannot find the source of the problem.

If you've got the time, the first thing that I would do would be to clean the IAC and the tb of carbon and other deposits. Remove tb and clean the underside and especially the edge of the plates. Remove IAC from tb and clean it and also the bypass air port on the tb at the IAC. Handle the IAC'S plunger with care (do not twist or push in/out). HTH.
