The tranny is a 4l60 which has proven it self all ready and the prototype turbo I5 quad cab, ran low 13's 350hp and 350tq and for graphitedak I sure hope your v8 out pulls a I5. GM didn't build it for towing most small/midsize trucks don't tow that usually left to the full size.

Do what i just did.
Trade in that piece of Chrysler crap for a 2005 Toyota Tacoma, 4L, 4x4, LSD, ABS that works, and ball joints that come from the factory with grease in them. Better fit & finish than anything Dodge can come up with, better resale value, and it's SOLID!
(ugly fender flares, though, just like the Colorado's)
Bye y'all.

That has to be the dumbest thing that I have ever heard. A freakin Tacoma?? Wow, that is a true performance vehicle. I think the turbo add-on to the I5 would be the most practical idea, as far as not adding too much to the bottom line. I bet that dropping a 6.0, and all the modification would add quite a bit to the bottom line of the truck. It would be nice if they could drop the turbo in, making somewhere in the range of 300hp, lower the suspension 2/4", some nice 17 or 18" rims and some larger disk brakes. They could probably do all of this, and up the bottom line at the most, $5,000. As long as they dont require you to get leather seats, and upgraded sound systems and SS badging on everything. Of course, having only a autmatic tranny would not be acceptable. Having a turbo truck without a manual tranny would kill the fun factor. I love the lightning, but man that truck would be freakin sweet if it had a 5 or 6-speed.

I personally would rather have the sound of a 350HP V8 LS1 than the funky a$$ sound of a I5 even if the turbo gave it 350 HP.

As far as Tacoma's being SOLID???
Only if they don't run into anything bigger than another tacoma!

Tacoma's and Frontiers are so light weights compared to Dodge it's not even funny. From the body panels to the frame they are a lot weaker. I wouldn't dare pull 4,000 Lbs with one yet alone drive in traffic with the rest of the "big boys"

When I was younger (around 1990 or so) I rear ended one with my parents Ford (car). I was too close going down a hill and they slammed on their brakes when they changed their mind which way they wanted to go. still my fault but stupid.

Anyway. It was a brand stinkin new Toyota truck with the temp plate still on it. I hit my brakes hard when they did and wasn't even sure if we hit them because none of us felt it at all in the ford.
Pulled over. That new Toyota was totally butt f**ked!
Tailgate smashed to sh*t. Bumper smashed and the frame mounts at the bumper bent to sh*t as well!!!

The CHROME on the Ford had a ding in it!

That's right. The front metal of the Ford HOOD hit the truck and didn't dent except for the piece of chrome!

Pathetic.

They always give jap crap high safety ratings running them into a stationary wall and how the POS crumbles up is supposed to be safe.

Run a Toyo Taco into a Dodge at 60 head on. Dodge now doing 40, Taco doing 100 in reverse!!!

I'll keep my Dodge thankyou!

I don't think they come in a "hard' shell.

Not when a Ford car can peel through a Toyota and only need a piece of CHROME repaired!!!

I would only WISH the front end of our Dak's were that strong (like the car). Need to add some steel behind our plastic grill. Which I plan on eventually. I want a push bar and to connect it to the frame!

The new 2005 245hp/283lb-ft Tacoma and the new 2005 265hp/284lb-ft Frontier are easily the equivalent of a 4.7L Dakota with 230hp/290lb-ft. Yes, even the frames on the new trucks are solid. Check out the weight on a 4x4 Club Cab - the Tacoma and Frontier are up around 4200 pounds just like a Dakota. While the Colorado and Ranger aren't really competition for the Dakota, the new imports certainly are!

Dude. Can you say UN EQUAL power ratings. Them vehicles test their power to the equivalent of revving it up to peak power RPM's and dropping the clutch!
where our power is solid idle to redline.

Take a Taco and a Dakota V8 and tow the SAME trailer up some grades.

THEN tell me them engines are equal!!!

It may accelerate 0 to 60 similar unloaded in the lighter truck, but towing? Not a chance buddy. You will KNOW there's a lot more difference than a real 10 Ft Lbs of torque! And don't even try to argue.

Dude NO way it will have the same POWER in real life TOWING.

Sure you can make a V6 breath and make good PEAK power at 6K to get a GOOD rating in a LITTLE power band and have crappy torque.

Meanwhile the guys who build trucks for REAL jobs make them have flat power bands and make GOOD power even at 3K RPM's where the truck needs to do the most work when towing. It's advertised rating may seem like not so big of a peak HP rating. But you have to look at the big picture. You can change cams and intake on a V8 and make it have close to 100 MORE H.P. at the higher RPM limits because it can BREATH at them RPM's. But it wont TOW any better, maybe WORSE.

Go ahead and buy a V6 Taco with a high peak HP rating. Then try to tow something equal to what a Dak V8 does. It just wont happen! You can't use that truck for anything except for driving around with no load in it.

I can't stands it no more!! Hook my hay wagon to a Taco and a Frontier and I doubt it will move and if it does the motor will blow because its running 6k rpms to make the torque. HP's don't create a tow vehical torque does, down low. If your truck isn't rated over 6000 lbs of tow weight you can't pull anything in the work world. Tundra's, 4.8 Chevy, 4.6 Fords, 4.7 Rams and 4.7 Daks are roughly equal for towing. Taco's and Frontiers just haven't crossed over. Plus everyone knows the 4.7 has never been rated honestly for torque. MOst of the Dino's I've seen run way over 300 ft.lbs at the crank. A couple of mods and your up near a Hemi.

My friend who has a 3.3 Frontier brought up the 4.0 Frontier again saying it had a higher HP rating than my 4.7
I said "Dude. that's ADVERTISEMENT. The engines are all naturally asperated and have about equal engineering as far as getting power per size. Those smaller trucks are NOT going to pull like a V8 no way no how. While my 4.7 is running 3k RPM's at 80+ MPH up a steep grade pulling a trailer no sweat that Frontier would be in 2nd gear doing 5500 RPM's and going SLOWER!!!!"
Guarenteed!

THEN lets see some small Toyota's get 300k miles doing severe towing duties! I smell warped heads and blown head gaskets form OVER HEATS running them 5500 RPM's to pull any hills :-)

Oh yeah. I also told him "ok, they could design the 4.7 to breath BETTER at 6K RPM's thus moving it's usable power at the higher revs. THEN it could have well over 300HP no sweat. but then it would SUCK for towing and jobs like that."

I'll take the lazy rating they give us and out perform them sh*t box trucks any day when the time comes!

Though i like both new frontier and tacomas, I agree with Graphite dak on his opinion.... I dont think the rest of you undertstand how engines work... Its like saying a "300hp" 4 banger would tow as well as a 300hp v-8... thats in simple terms for your retards
