hello i own a 98 4x4 5.2 automatic club cab dakota, i have two main problems..
my first trouble is that my e-brake and abs lights always turn on after 5 or 10 minutes the truck has been running, i've checked the computer codes and nothing comes out wrong, plus i've already reset them, and it happens again...

my second problem is that i'm getting way too low mileage, i'm getting just 7-8mpg, that's city and 12-13 mpg on long trips...
i live in mexico so clearly my gasoline is not quite the octane rating i need, plus higher octanage does not really help...

i'm ridng the stock michelin wrangler 31x10.50x15tires so the tire size should not be a problem

do you think i should worry/
[pd. it is not easy to get good mechanical service over here]

#1 - could be the wheel speed sensor in the differential housing. is your speedo working ok?

#2 - possible bad O2 sensor.

maybe someone else will chime in with more.

That truck is a prime candidate for the intake belly pan gasket failure (this can kill fuel economy). Look down into the throttle body for traces of engine oil. If you see any, most likely the belly pan gasket is blown and should be replaced. For another possible clue, check your engine oil level. If it is low, but you have seen no external leaks, then that may also be a symptom of the belly pan gasket failure. AND, a good old fashioned major engine tune-up will never hurt any Dodge V-8...plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor button, air filter, clean the throttle body and have the fuel injection system flushed.
The ABS/BRAKE lights are on most likely because of the rear axle speed sensor as posted by daddio above.

Make sure you let us know how it comes out. Ask if you have any further questions.
Good luck with it.
