I need some instructions how to disconnect the shift lever linkage at the tranny housing. Once I get that, then I can drop the valve body down.
Thanks

I just did that about 2 hours ago, but for the second time in as many weeks. There are two small bolts that clamp the linkage onto a post that actually sticks through the housing that is attached the valve body. Pop the two cables off the post with a screwdriver, loosen the bolts that clamp on the linkage, and then pull them up off the post. I believe the top bolt is a 7/16 and the bottom one is 1/2.

Hope this helps, now you have to answer my post about the transgo kit. If you need any more help I think I should be able to work with you. I just did the whole thing a week ago and now I'm taking it back out to drill some more :-)

Thanks much for the reply, Kaderdak. I already figured it out myself but its good to know that I did it the right way.
FYI, im just doing the TFOD JR. kit. I went to a local tranny shop and he had the Jr. and the performance kit there in stock. He let me look through the directions and I talked to him about the kits. alot of the instructions are the same for both kits-mainly the drilling of passages are the same. The performance kit is just more extensive. I'm not really going for performance, just tranny longevity. Hopefully I made the right choice for what I want.
I have the valve body out in my basement right now and will start dissasembly and drilling passages. Please keep in touch as I am currently working on it right now. I'm only 19 and kinda nervous of screwing up my tranny. Im sure I'll post some more questions for you to answer. Thanks 99 Dak, 5.2, 44re auto, 5.5" Tuff Country installed myself ,33" BFG Muds with Eagle alloy 589, intake, exhaust, ait and crank sensor mod, and hopefully a sucessful shift kit.

Hehe, have fun. I'm only 21 myself and still need to scrap together enough money to pay tuition next semester as it is. So if I screw something up, the truck's likely to sit for awhile.

It's amazing how similar of a setup we have. I also have a '97 5.2 4x4 44re and am/have installed the TFOD jr. Hopefully we'll both come out with some good results.

I was just reading though some posts for inof on shift kits and came across this one. It's sure good to see young guys who are into domestic trucks.
Just an observation.
