Mr. What,

I agree, but going past the rev limit, without some head work, and cams for that range, just isn't necessary. It's making some power but

At 5,500 rpm, it lost about 50hp, and 125ft/lbs of torque from the peak, at the wheels.

With my manual, I started to shift at about 5,000-5500
again when I'm trying to go max, and it feels pretty good.

When I hit my rev limiter mine is STILL pulling strong. I KNOW it has more left.

I've had some modded (cams, heads, etc) 302 Fords that I ran to 7K all day long. This engine should be no different.
And when I get my truck paid off I Do plan on pulling my HO cmas and going with the more agressive cam, new spings, and probably pistons by that point. The engine BETTER do 7k to 7,500 and be making power. But it would need some PCM work for that as well.
Once you haver a V8 that can be driven on the street revving to 7K, it's an awesome thing :-)
And it sounds GOOD.

Geez, the hurtin' continues. Has anyone dealt with SoCal Motorsports before? They're the ones that I bought the Superchips tuner through on a group buy...it doesn't work and Superchips won't take it back for a reprogram without the receipt, which SoCal hasn't sent me. I've emailed and called and no one will respond. It's been almost a month now. I don't know what to do other than complain to Paypal (How I paid them) and try to send it back registered mail so that at least there's some indication that I tried to send it back. What a pain in the butt. Superchips says that as long as I put in a receit they've no problem reprogramming it, and paying for the mail costs both ways.

I ran over a tank on 89, using the perf. program from Superchips, in my 01 4.7, manual.

Even on this setting, I got slightly better, about 1-2 Mpg overall, highway trip, etc.

They never mailed me a receipt from the group buy either. This tuner gave me less than a 4% increase MAX, on 93, with the perf setting.

See my other posts.

They sent receipts to the people who had to return the tuners to SC for the dreaded "reprogramming" problem. I received mine via email.

someone mentioned trying to get more rpm out of part throttle shifts. their truck bogs down. i want that on my truck too. try the tps mod. the computer thinks you have more gas on and shifts at a higher rpm. (i think that's the theory).

I`ve posted about the part throttle shifts before. I wanted someone with stock tires and a tuner to program in the biggest tires to see if it changed shift points. I think the TPS mod is only for off idle response and not shifting(I could be wrong). When I first got the truck the mechanic at work hooked up a scanner and my TPS was at .63 anyway.

LISTENING.
Todd, are you trying to tell us to SAVE our $300 for somethiing else???

After all the excitement of FINALLY getting a programmer that would be a bummer.
Paybe the 4.7 just has some pretty descent factory tuning to start with?

The factory tuning can definitely be improved on - the flash I got made a noticable difference. I think the manuals may come with more ignition advance from the factory; might not see as much gain for those with a manual tranny ? Anyone figure out how much advance you get from the tuner to compare to the flashes yet ?

I think people should decide for themselves.
I just posted MY objective data, with MY mods and the SC, on 87 and 93 oct.
I'm still not sure. I agree it's the only thing so far, for $300, that has been shown to do anything. For me and my manual, it wasn't much, but it does do something, dyno proven.

Did you see that the power and Torque loss I had from the max to 5800? Mine still goes up there to, but I'd rather be in the next gear, putting out twice the torque of 6 grand.

And, I'm not sure what the timing advance is.

It seems I got about as much though, with slightly less mods, than someone with about the same mods, the KB opt 2 flash, AND a SHORT BELT bypassing the P/S, and A/C! I just don't know anymore.

I finally got my tuner back from Superchips yesterday and it installed right. On the performance install options screens it specifically said "No rev limiter increase opt.".

Just to be sure, I checked. It started with 6100rpm before the tuner, and it was still 6100rpm after the tuner.

TexasTodd...the tuners are meant for stock or near stock engines...for your engine you need a custom flash to see major gains...you changed camshafts, that is the heart of the engine and the programming needs to be tuned to the h.o. not the stock camshafts...the small amount of power your did get probably comes from the timing advance alone, but a custom flash would also opitimize the air fule ratio much better for you, I am in the same boat as you with similar mods but with an automatic, the programmer might be worth it in my case in terms of shift points and turning of tmr but i was hoping even modded engines would benefit more, thanks for posting your actual results.

Pittdawg, don't look for the Superchips to help on the auto's shift points, as they don't mess with the TCM at all. They do mod the TMR function, so if you haven't clipped the wire already, there is definitely some benefit from that.

I don't plan on dyno'ing (PITA and usually more expensive for an AWD), but I am waiting on a G-tech to arrive by Friday.
