Yes, you can remove the 3rd one and not pop a code.

That is also true. :)

Definitely a personal choice one way or the other.

It makes a difference because the stock cat is 2.5" exit. If you cut it out, you can go to 3" all the way back. If you want to stay legal, get a 3" high flow cat and put that on instead.

i might just tell him to do that, i dont think he will loose that much with a high flow than open. its alot easier on his r/t cause its an 01. i got a 99 with the dual input cat, and i got pph headers so i am going to have to get a custom y pipe made to go into a single hi flow cat. should sound pretty good afterwards tho...thanks for the info

prple,

I know it's a different motor, but on my 4.7, it HAD three cats, and no senors by the third. So like others on here, my third cast mysteriosly vanished.

You know, I loode in the end, and wow, you couldn't even see down it, it has a fine mesh screen across the entire pipe at one end!

With stock everything else, sounds a bit meaner and louder. I personally hate a loud, daily driver.

you will screw up your pcv valve if you just chop the 3rd cat. you need to either relocate your iat sensor or replace your pcv valve every month...

Removing the 3rd cat won't make the truck run bad. There is no 02 sensor after the 3rd cat so there is no pcm, sensor, pcv, etc. effect at. It will make the truck louder and should improve performance - off road use only, lol.

b1,

Mine is defineitely louder, and meaner sounding w/o the 3rd cat.

UUummmmmmm-BBbbaaaaaaa, when you rev it, still quiet enough though. When I go to custom true duals, I want a muff that flow well, but is NOT that loud. Especially since I want it to exit Befor the rear axle on my Quad cab.
