 Subject: Will b&g flash end up breaking tranny?

So i have heard dakota transmission have a bad habit of breaking transmissions. Dodge put the torque management on the truck to help keep the tranny from being overstressed. Now then i do want to get a b&g flash which would turn off the torque management system and give more power so i was wanting to know if i'm giving my tranny a early death by getting this pcm flash. 00 r/t

is that 00rt the same tranny as is behind the 4.7 its a new generation transmission which should be fine. if it's the same as what is behind the older rams like 95 98 maybe even a little newer, then yes. torque management mod may not be for you. maybe they can do everything but torque management. or maybe they can eliminate the off the line torque management, but leave the shifting one there. i don't know if they can do that but it would be cool. however, if you do this maybe a higher stall converter will help smooth out the shifts on the tranny or a shift kit?? do they have those for your tranny or is it elec controlled. maybe if they quicken the shift after removing torque management, it would be ok. more help needed i think. anybody?

thanks kow, i didn't think so. 4.7 has a much better tranny behind it. anyone know how long it is designed to last. they say 150 for our engine. what's a good average for the tranny?

I'd expect most properly maintained 45RFEs to last quite a while, but haven't seen any #s. Mine still works like new after plowing and towing for 4 years, but that really isn't all that long. We'll may have to wait til its been out a while to know.

Well, I got a 97 5.2 with just under 140K on it, and I've beaten it at the track and with towing, and the tranny still runs like a champ. Shop did tell me that some chunks were in the pan when I did my tranny fluid a month or so ago, but nothing to worry about yet. Never really hard of much problems with Dakota transmissions unless you're putting out 350+ RWHP

Generally harder shifting makes a trans last longer because it eliminates the clutch slippage that makes the trans shift nice and soft (but wears out the clutchs). However everyone knows that dodge doesn't make the best trannies...

that is true about wide open shifts, the faster it shifts, the less strain on the clutches. however, that does not apply to torque management. it helps because the tranny is not shifting under wide open any more. the transmission never sees a wide open shift in it's life. thus lasting longer despite not having the above mentioned harder shifting.
