i'm not the only one whose mind this has crossed, but i'm very serious about starting this service. i want to setup more performance cams for the 4.7. i don't own a truck shop, but i am a businessman. i have a 4.7 for myself and wish there was a cam out there better than the ho cam, but cheaper than $700. i may have core cams if the shop that did my install didn't throw them out. can they be sent to a cam grinding company to have them setup with more lift/duration, etc. what do you guys think? i'll do it if i can get some buyers semi-commited.

my main choice of cam would be speced out to similiar specs as krc 206. i'm thinking of a 208 lift though, something good for 4x4s especially cause they really need the help, but that won't lose torque for us heavy guys. heres my thoughts

208 lift cam 4x4 and 2wd guys
216 lift cam 2wd guys especially dakotas
what would be on your dream cam list and what do you think these should be priced at. unfortunately i think it would be much higher than 200 ho cams, BUT lower than 700 krc cams. need some input to get this thing rollin

The $700 kit form KRC Performance is the whole kit, Cams, springs, retainers, tool, instructions and caps. Well worth it

If you think about it for a minute..

Um, well just draw a cam lobe on a piece of paper and then imagine grinding it to make it bigger. In other words, NO.

If you grind or weld a cam you ruin the case hardening and it will last maybe 3000 miles if you're lucky.

Even if you could do it, the fact that you're referring to 208 and 216 as lift would pretty much deterr me from using your services.

Any job worth doing is worth doing well. As long as you are determined to make a quality product, with research and testing to back it up, I'm in full support of it. I try not to discourage people from developing performance parts for the 4.7 since it seems our engine is going to be forever remembered as the Dodge "Economy" V8, and the aftermarket crowd has ignored us. We could use more aftermarket parts for our engines, but the last thing we need is a half Arsed attempt at it. I would rather not mod my truck than buy a shady Cam at half price. I know KRC is a little pricey but that is probably because they put in a LOT of research and development into those cams.

If your going to do it, and do it well, Then by all means PLEASE, Make some parts!

One more thing,

If your going to produce a cam, don't copy other peoples design. Get some eggheads and some gearheads in a garage, and come up with some specs on your own. If your plan is to simply copy KRC's specs on cams and produce some knockoffs then get your lawyer ready, because a lawsuit is a brewin. Plus I would never buy a knockoff of someone else's hard work.

Make a duplicate of the H.O. Cam and sell it for half the price that Mopar does, or come up with some new ones. Perhaps a more agressive version of the HO cam.

Did you know that the cam lobes are all press on. So if you want, find a company to make your cam lobes to your specs and duration, and have them install the lobes on the shaft and fine tune it to the duration you want.
