 Subject: Almost devastated a 4.0.......I think

On the way home today, I came up along this late 80's Ford Ranger at a light. It was two laned that merge into one and I was in the right lane and had to merge into the left lane. Anyway, as I pull up to the red light, the guy in the Ranger looks my Dak over and revs his motor as he creeps forward. The light goes green and I slam the gas as he disapears out of sight from the corner of my eye. Would have been sweet but this damn Astro van turns right in my lane and merges in fron of both. Just as my lane ends, I have to put the brakes on and he comes flying up along side in the oncoming traffic lane and barely squeezes by me, almost clipping my front end. If I didnt have to put the brakes on, I would have taken him all the way. Bye the way, both trucks were stock but I have the 5.2 and I think he may have had the 4.0. So what do you think, did I win the race?

You would smoke him. The only way he'd have a chnace is if you were a CC 4x4 and he was a 2WD R.C but even then I'll pick the Dakota 5.2. I had a CC 5.2 4X4 and it was quick.

Come on guys...80's Ranger's only had a 2.8 V6 at best!Jeffster you need to get back on your med's.
There is no way in hell a stock 4.0 Ranger is going to beat a V8 Dak. 4x4 6x6 or 9x9.I owned a real good ruing 97 4.0 Ranger and I would not run a V8 Dak.
You ever wonder what the speed of lighting would be if it didn't zigzag?

Well I wouldn't say that any 4.0L Ranger is slow. I test drove a 2001 Ford Ranger 4x2 Edge with the new 4.0L 5 speed. They have the 0-60 mph time for the CC 4x4 Ranger Edge with new 4.0L at 8.6 sec. I definitly believe it. The one I drove had to be in the 7's 0-60 mph. It didn't have a Posi so it would bark 3rd gear pretty good. I don't think a 4x4 Dakota with a 5.2L could hang with the new 4.0L considering the it now has 210 horsepower compared to 160 for the old 4.0L

Who said anything about a 80's ranger Bob?? You need the med's. He said late model Ranger model which means very recent. 210 HP sound good for a new V6 Ranger but lets see the torque numbers. Dodge is killing there victims with high TQ. Even the new coming 270 HP is suppose to be a far cry from a 4.7's 295lb or the 5.9's bone crushing 350lb of TQ.

Oh ya I had some guy in an older 5.0 start doing a break stand in front of me at a light today.
He he he. You know what happened after that. Goodbye old 5.0 stang.
I was offered a $100 bet to race a Porche (old 80's one) and said sure no problem. It was my friends friend and we were all heading off to go clubbing in the Dak. I shouldn't have showed off on the way for he jammed out on the bet. He said my first and second gear were just way to strong and he would lose in the 1/4 and wanted to do a city wide race instead. I declined not wanting to shmuck some poor innocent pedestrian or have my licenese taken away.

On Saturday Night I raced a newer Ranger 4.0 and I whooped his a$$ all over the road. I have a 3.9L V-6. He pulled up next to me and started reving his engine. I looked at him, we were both going 25 and I floored it. It dropped into first and started burning the tires into 2nd. I let off cause of the cars in front of us. I asked the guys if he wanted to race. We went out to the highway and lined em up. We both floored it, and I completely killed him. He didn't have a chance. Stupid Ford's anyways.

There is no way a new Ranger Edge could keep up with a 5.2Dak.The new 4.0 only has a little over 200hp and my 99Dak has about that at the wheels.Anyways performace is important but what about stying? That is what sold me on the Dakota.They are so mean looking,meaner than the Ram hands down.So we must not forget that while it helps to have the power you want to look good when smoking those so-called Edges.

I own a edge reg cab with a 4.0 5speed and know for a fact the only dakota worth a sh1t in speed is the r/t.I have smoked all the newer v6'v8 models.the r/t only runs lil quicker than my edge i run low 15s the r/t runs mid 14s.i know 15s are not fast by the way.

Hey now....the Ranger Edge's are bad as heck. I also like dakota too. Don't pick on the 4.0 liters!!!! 207 HP out of a V6 is pretty bad.
