Well it is a pretty big restriction, but I wouldn't mess with it unless you are planning to rid your dakota of the cat that is after it. The stock y-pipe and cat are the bottle neck here. If it was my truck I would definately get rid of the cat and stock y-pipe and go true duals. If you do decide to do that you would need a O2 simmulator for the rear oxygen sensor on your (2000 dakota). Also don't go with pipe any bigger than 2 1/2 (if duals). If you do decide to go single(3or 3 1/2) and take the cat off Flowmaster makes a y-pipe (look in summit or jegs or go to their website) I think its under $50.00. I have one on my truck. Oh YA, definatley will uncork exhaust and give you noticeable gains in all rpms whichever route you choose to go.

does the flow master or custom y-pipe replace the cat. i would probably rather get a cheap, high flow cat over replacing mine. or else gutting it but i don't want to gut it then have to buy another one for emmissions one day. plus i don't want to pollute for 3 hp or whatever gains no cat does over high flow cat. OR does the flowmaster y-pipe just replace my y pipe
