 Subject: Dakota 318 vs. (s/c) S10 and 5.0 Rustang

Well.....I was very shocked and couldnt get over it but saturday night before my water pump failed and broke off the pulley (defective!), I raced a 2001 S/Charged S10 XTreme and from 20-60 he couldnt beat me i was infront the whole time but not by much. He had a powerdyne supercharger and it was an auto. I totally couldnt belive that I beat him but the guy gave me a thumbs up and was a good sport about it! The next race I had was a guy in a 89-90 5.0 5 speed mustang and we went off the line. From about 0-60 he was about 3/4/-1 car behind me and another suprise there. Is it just me or is a RC 318 stock dakota just fast. The only mod I have is a baseline shift kit and thats it? What you guys think!?!?

Flowmaster orig. 40 series (2 chamber) muffler, adjusted tps to .76V, ported TB, home brew intake setup w/K&N filter, more mods to come!!!

Yah the guy in the S10 pulled over next to me after we went and wanted to see what I have done??? I told him that usually a V8 doesnt need an iron lung to go fast and he really had a hard time beliving me it was stock!

I think those v6 superchargers only add 52 hp to the 180hp that the 4.3 s10 already has.What do you have for gears? the s10 has 3.42's

My friend has a 98 dodge dakota RC with an auto. At the track he ran a 16.4 at 81mph at Lousiana
race way in eunice. I dont think you could beat
at superchared s-10 mustless a mustang 5.0 five speed. unless they were amature drivers who did not know what the hell they were doing. A STOCK mustang 5.0 runs between 14.6 (LX) and 15.2(GT).

This is no B.S. story thats is the only mod he has. He is running he said close to 230 h.p. I didnt say i killed him a barley beat him. It was a close azz race. No only S/C s10s run 13's that would be as ridiculous as saying a only s/c r/t runs 12's.He has a powerdyne and I dont know about his boost but it is a stock setting. He hasnt had it tuned yet. All he had was a S/C and All I had was a shift kit. As far as I know I have 3.55 with an auto and a superior shift kit....which has to be reduced because line pressure is too high and making my foward clutch pack slip. No B.S!

BTW...as far as i am concerned the 5.0
mustang cant break out of the fifteens stock
no matter what as far as GT goes. LX, i guess
is a 4 cyl converted to a 5.Slow! It might dip
into the 14's but unlikely and if so very high 14.
The one I raced was an LX. I have no clue
whats been done to my truck previously before
I got it but i am pretty sure its stock
considering I pull dead even with a RC 5.3
chevrolet truck!

As long as you want to believe no 5.0L can break into the 14's......................... Let's just say I will continue to laugh my arse off. The fact of the matter is that (whether you choose to believe it or not) these Mustangs were more than able to run well into the 14's. Of course, not everyone will. Some will be in the 15's but a heck of alot more will be in the 14's.

Sounds like you may have raced a 4cyl mustang with the 90hp 2.3. Maybe the s10 was a 4 cyl supercharged!!!

I had a 89 mustange with a 351 with a mild cam.
very fast car. never drove a stock 5.0
I love my dak , but whish I had that stang back .
2 duis and 15 driving while revocked . Got to love that stang.
