"An efficient (alrady said this) elctric supercharger could work. It just depends on how well it is made."

The problem is, you also said this-

"Well, i finally saw a real one put onto the market, and I was wondering about getting it."

Apparently, people took you seriously, knowing that there are no electric superchargers on the market that capable of performing as you suggest. If there were, you would have provided a link to this incredible new discovery.

slopehead, the motors in those CNC's would be pretty large, expensive, high tech, and heavy so you can't compare them to what would be driving these little impeller deals. And I assume they are in actual DC motors. Most frequency modulated motors are.

I don't know exaclty what is in those machines but I'm just going by what I've known from electronic experience. Still. It's apples to oranges because I guarantee them eBay blowers are cheap little brush style DC motors like you have on radiator fans, etc. For the price it wont have any microprocessor controlled motor to control speed and torque. It will just turn as fast as it can until the load prevents it from speeding up any further. Way before 24K

Thank you for finally giving some worthy feedback. Everyone else just cracked on the idea. I was just wonderin what people thought of the idea, cuz i've always thought about it, and i ran across when randomly searching EBAY.

Sorry if i sounded dumb, it was just a thought ive always had.

This is the site ? got his info from. Honestly it seems like a bunch of garbage. According to almost everyone I have talked to the best way to add horses is get rid of factory exhaust and go to headers and dual. It doesn't matter how much you jam into the engine if it can't get out. Also if you filter through all the jokes and put downs the guys really do explain why esupercharges are a scam.

Alec - if you don't like the joking, maybe you should do a search here on the topic before posting. This is a silly idea that has been posted seriously here a number of times. People do tend to deal with foolish ideas with humor, less frustrating that way.

Let's do some math on this. A typical supercharger draws about 30 hp from the engine to produce it's 100 hp boost. Doing the conversion to electricity, an efficient 1hp electric motor draws 750 watts, or 62.5 amps at 12 volts. Multiply that by 30 since we know it takes about 30 hp to drive a conventional supercharger at 6-8psi... that's 1875 AMPS of draw to get that same boost. Now, could someone please show me a wire... heck and electrical system for a vehicle that could handle that kind of draw... Even dividing that by 1/3, thus producing 30 hp at the end would still draw over 620 amps. What a crock!

Here's your very own Esupercharger by way of boatersworld.com $20

Look farmiliar? These things cant build static pressure as a Turbo or supercharger does, though they can blow air if unrestricted. The 4" version is 240CFM, so you would have to put 3 of these things in parallel to get close to the 750 CFM they are claiming. Not in series, one in front of the other, side by side connected with 3 different hoses. If you put them one in front of the other then you might be able to build some static pressure, but you would be buying 9-12 of these things to get any significant pressure at the correct CFM.

It looks to me like they stacked 3 of these 240 CFM blowers inside a a peice of sewer pipe to set some pressure and are calling it 750CFM, but in reality its 240CFM with more static pressure than a single blower. Nothing like the engine trying to suck a fan down the inkate as it's gasping for air.

Gotta love it ;)

Oops, I shouldn't have said significant static pressure unless you call less than 1/2 PSI significant.

There are ones advertised on ebay now that are claiming 18k rpm and 5-6 PSI...they claim in the title that it will work with the r/t, but then in the desc claim 4 cly or v-6 only

It's like some people actually WANT to believe that sh*t to be true.

What we need is MORE real aftermarket performance that works. Without paying $5000 for a damn supercharger kit, etc.
I think the best bet for cheap boost is to buy a bare bones unit if you want a blower and make all the mounts and tubing yourself. Then make the the fuel management work somehow. Buying a kit just gets you raped unless it's for the 5.0 Mustang. They go for under $2000 with every part needed.

Check this out, it's not the answer by any means and definately not worth the money.

http://www.electricsupercharger.com/

The thing draws 57 amps (ouch), produces a couple of extra HP and only operates at WOT,,,,, ALL THAT FOR ONLY $299

Why buy this thing if it only produces a couple (5-10???) hp, only at WOT. I doubt you would even know it's there except for a dyno run. You could spend $300 on other performance products and get better results through out the entire power band.

What a bunch of crap. I especially like this line " 0 TO 25,300 RPM in 1/10th SECOND (activated by an NOS-type switch at Wide-Open Throttle). "

Damn. If that motor was capable of that kind of torque to turn from 0 to 25k it would be a LOT more than $300!!!

ANother piece of sh*t B.S. product just like the propeller looking throttle body spacers and all the other crap they sell that desperate people waste their money on.

Another funny thing on their site is their explaination of how they get their "1 psi" of boost.
Attn: nobody with Dak's fall sucker for this thing. Let them little fart can Ricers use these things. A truck should not be subjected to such blasphemy!
