I am ready to start a big project with my dakota. Its a supercharged 318 right now. here are the options i have been thinking about.

Wild 318 - If i were to go this route i would focus on the top end (2.02 heads, all the good stuff). Get some new pistons, pushrods, etc to hold the boost, but keep the 318 block. Then maybe down the road i can buy a 360 block, stroke it to a 408 and strap all my top end pieces off of my wild 318 onto the new 408 block.

408 project - Just buy a 360 block now, stroke it and setup it up over the winter and drop it in when spring comes. The disadvatnage this option has is MONEY! It will be easier to focus on heads, pistons etc. using the 318, rather than having to buy a whole block pistons AND top end, along with any other modifications i will need to do along the way. Is this option worth all the extra work and money or should i just wait and work on my 318.

project 318 - has anyone bored a 318 block into a 390? Could the block handle this? If so, what do you guys think about this? Bore the block 390, 2.02 heads, supercharged etc.

Im going back and forth crazy between the ideas! There are so many options. Obviously i would want to just do option 2 because i would have a 408 but that is going to be a large expensive project. The wild 318 could turn into a 408 somewhere down the road. However the 390 would most likely stay a 390. What would i be missing out on? gaining? From each of these options.

The engine has 75000 miles on it but any of this projects will be fixing this. Got any ideas on which way to go with my winter project? Sorry for the long post.

Wild 318 wouldn't need new pistons just for mods, only if you were gonna run real boost, like turbo or supercharging.
If you took the 318 to 390, there is boring, but also a stroker crank is involved, and it has been done many times for a number of years. You wouldn't miss having a 408 if you did the 390.

Are you sitting down? As with all these crate stroker engines, it's steep! In the article, posted 2/2004 of Mopar Muscle, it's quoted at $6500 for a ready-to-run engine. However, you're looking at a very solid package, with top-quality parts, and expert assembly by long-time Mopar guys. It'll last longer, and run like stink. Besides, you'd probably make some cash stomping others with your "318" til the word gets out about some killer package you have. ;-)
The price will vary depending on parts preferences. It might be something to work towards by accumulating parts over time, and assemble it yourself, and they will help with instructions...especially if you get the parts from them. That'd bring the cost down to just parts and necessary machine work.

that package sounds awesome, i have a feeling a lot of money is
going to go into just the block........top end is going to be a
whole other mission and expense! But it sounds like it could be
worth it.
