I am swapping out my 3.9 in my 93 dakota for a 5.2 or 5.9. From what i'v heard the engine mounts will line up if the new engine is a magnum? I'm planning on getting the V8 from a same year ram so that everything should be similar. Some people have told me that my ax-15 5 speed tranny won't hold up and some told me it would. does anyone know for sure? If if doesn't does anyone know if i can fit a 5 speed out of a full size into my dakota without mods? Thanks

Eric

Eric,

Dodge made the 5.2L, 5-spd Dakotas with the NV3500 tranny. That is also the same 5-spd tranny they put in the Ram 1500's. The AX-15 was used with V6 and 4cyl Daks. If you're going to go through the trouble of doing an engine swap, I would try to find an NV3500.

Somebody else might be a little more wise on this, but I don't think Dodge offerred the 5.9L with a 5-spd from the factory, but I could be wrong. The NV3500 is rated to 300 ft-lbs of torque at gross vehicle weight. I've got the same tranny in my '98 5.2L and have had few complaints.
Good luck!
